Research Strategy Paper Kisha Thomas GEN/200 September 22, 2010 Jasmine Rojas Research Strategy Paper In this paper I am going to talk about my day to day life with my son Jordan. As one of his parents it is really hard to deal with him at home. He gets made real easy and he is our trouble child. It is hard to grip with knowing that there is something wrong with one of your kids. My husband and I started talking and decided that we needed to find some help for him or Jordan was going to cause me and my husband to get a divorce. One of the problems that we are having with him is he not wanting to go to school because other kids make fun of him. Another is that is fighting with everyone and he does not care if he hurts anyone at all. Finding Places to Help The first thing I did was get on the internet to find out if there was any kind of help out there that would help us with Jordan. One of the places I found was North Care and they helped us out a lot. They came to our house and talked to us to find out what kind of help we needed with Jordan. We told them we needed help with getting him to go to school and keeping him in school so he can get his education just like all the other kids. I did a lot of research to figure out by myself to see if I can figure out what is wrong with Jordan. I did find some articles that helped me out to cope with things. Sometimes they do not help you out at all. Sometimes you just have to figure out what to do and how to deal with it all. One thing North Care told me to do is take him to this doctor and talk with them. The Holloway Group/ Dr. Swink North Care sent me to The Holloway Group to see if they can help me out. They asked a few question and then they knew what was a little bit wrong with him. They put him on some medication and the medication helped him out a lot. The kind of medications they have him on is Seroquel for bed time and Abilify for him in the morning. Those two medicines helped him out. They have us going to them every month just to see how he is doing and if they need to fix his medication. Sometimes they have to try a different kind of medicine but when they do that it always helps and calms him down more. They are really helpful when you need some help. We asked them if there was someone else we can him to find out what else is wrong with him and they told us about a psychologist that will run some test and let us know what he thinks. The doctor name is Dr. Swink. Dr. Swink is a real good doctor and all the kids like him that he sees. Dr. Swink ran a lot of test to find out what is wrong with him and what he found out was surprising to me and my husband. When Dr. Swink was finished he told us what was wrong with Jordan. Jordan has speech problems, he is mild mental retarded and he has an explosive anger disorder. He is seven years old but Dr. Swink says from his tests he is only three to three and a half years old. We will have to work with him every day for him to do what all the other kids can do but we can do it. Getting the help from the school We finally got him to go to school all day long and it is working out real well. We had to fight with the school to get an IEP done on him so they can give him the help he needs in school. It took us two years to get them started on it but it got done. If you go to him right now and ask him if he likes school he will tell you yes and he is happy. He has a lot of friends to play with and talk too every day. He gets homework just like all the other kids and when he gets home he starts his homework and then when he is done he goes and plays until it is bed time. Conclusion Every day is a tuff day for anyone that has a kid or kids with disabilities. There is always help out there that will help you if you need it. You can also look on the internet and get some help from there. The internet will help you find help or you can always call North Care and they will help you and they will also let you know where else you can go to get some help.
