Abstract Education is extraordinary career that many people like me truly love. It requires dedication, organization, love and respect. In this paper I would like to describe the reason for wanting to become a teacher, my personal characteristics, and my educational philosophy. Reflection Paper Education is extraordinary career that many people like me truly love. It requires dedication, organization, love and respect. To be a good teachers who truly make a big change in student’s lives; we need to be prepared because teaching requires developing new ideas, skills, discipline, academics, and techniques to students. In my experience as a substitute teacher for five years, I think that students need motivation and support. When I am in the classroom, I like to teach students and help them to understand the assignments. In this paper I would like to describe the reason for wanting to become a teacher, my personal characteristics, and my educational philosophy. I want to be a teacher because this is one of the most rewarding professions. I think education is one of the most wonderful careers because we serve young people and we mold them for the future. I like to work with children. They are fascinated and admirable. As a teacher we have the opportunity to prepare our future citizen in a good way. We are preparing our future citizen that we serve our country. My personal characteristics to be a good teacher are professional responsibility, professional behavior, personal appearance, and ability to work within the purpose. Professional responsibility is one of my stronger characteristic in my job; I like to arrive on time and be prepared to instruct my class. The professional behavior in teacher has a strong importance because we need to be guide for a set of values. We need to adopt a standard of professional ethics and models behaviors that are in accord with that code of ethics. The professional teacher also engages in serious, reflective thought about how to teach more effectively (Power, 2003, p 67). In my personal appearance I like to dress according to the dress code of school. I like to dress professionally because my job requires it. Finally, every day I work is with a purpose. My purpose is to make a big change in my students’ lives. I want they remember and practicing what they learn with me. Teacher should be current in the field of education because it is very important. We need to be prepared with new tools. Technology is a good tool to be current in the field of education. In the web we can find many articles and activities that help us to find new activities. To maintain passion about teaching we need to discover and to teach something new and interesting every day. We need to be organized and creative in order to motivate our student to learn, to investigate and to explore new subjects. We need to be prepared to attend teaching meeting, in services and to do extracurricular activities. To maintain passion about teaching we are not just a teacher we can be a friend, mentor and motivator for our students. My educational Philosophy is teaching with respect, care and love. It helps teacher to incorporate theories to real life. We need to provide confidence in their individual abilities and skills, and prepare them everyday for different aspects in their life. The more important is I want to be an authentic teacher with a good educational philosophy developed. I want to make something important in children life. In an article that I read in the library said that it is very important understanding your purpose in life, it start by practicing strong values, leading with your heart, establishing connected relationships and demonstrating self-discipline (Beagrie, 2005, p. 31). I think that is a set of skills and characteristics that a teacher should have. In conclusion, I have more that five years working as a substitute teacher. This job is giving me learning experiences and concepts to apply in my future job as elementary teacher. I have the opportunity to work in different schools and in different grades. I hope with my experiences and my education I could do a big impact in the life and education of my students. I want they remember me as an important person that want to be something extraordinary in theirs lives. Each student is unique and special. Each student has a different personality, different skills, different cultural and socioeconomic background, and individual way of learning.
