REALITY TELEVISION BLINDNESS Reality television is a common type of television in America. People love to sit back and enjoy the unscripted dramatics or humorous situations common. Reality TV has existed in different forms since these shows began. The term is most commonly used to describe the programs produced since the year 2000. Reality TV contains a wide range of topics but it seems to get most of America’s attention is reality dating shows. Every week millions of viewers tuned in to their favorite reality dating shows to see what pleasure and fights that happened and who had the better chance of winning and who will be eliminated. The plot shows that they had new contestants every week. The actors were able to observe that their fans truly loved their weekly shows. They decided to make a term known as "The Bachelor”. The whole season of the presentation was focused on one person choosing from twenty different women. Each week the crowd got to know each participant became more addicted to the show. Bachelor-like spin-off shows have come out recently to earn the title reality TV a whole new meaning. These shows are full of energy, craziness, drama, and sex appeal; this is what America got drawn to. The first turn off display features a man by the name William Drayton, an African-American hype man, who is known as Flavor Flav. His career began in 1987 with his rap group Public Enemy. Flavor Flav is the “hype man” of the group. He kept fans entertained with his extraordinary selection of clothing and crazy personality. He then became a member of the Vh1 reality show “The Surreal Life,” which provides a record of washed up celebrities in a house to live together. He became so popular on the show. The directors of the season decided to give him his own dating business, and so the image “Flavor of Love” began. With continuous progressions of the show, the crowd got influenced and got addicted to the image and therefore he could not do anything else apart from the show. The value of the show was more than any thing else, so people landed on having misplaced priorities and forgot that reality TV was someone’s' but not theirs. The crowd lost value of everything they had. A value is a bargain, worth, merit, or importance as in the value of a college education. The TV had persuaded or influenced people since 1941, when the TV stations were no longer experimental and given call letters. Before that run, newspapers and radio was the only media outlets that were commonly used. Mainly newspapers were the main source of inspiration used during the first 1900’s during a time when sensationalist stories were the principal reads. Even though, there are various different types of media outlets television ranks the highest. Since reality TV’s rules and transmitting its first reality show, the context is what the audience has always wanted. Does this help social and ethical behavior' Watching women war and draw on housewives is not something I want my daughter to watch. These values are not what need to be transmitted to youths or adults, like another example is talk shows. For example, The Maury Show mainly discusses, “Who is my baby’s daddy'” This teaches young ladies and mature women that it is OK to be immoral sexually. The issue reflects conflicts over how people should behave; clashing personalities, life-styles, and values; and what happens when people overstep fix social boundaries to make the assault like cheat on a spouse or take a friend’s boyfriend. The excitement comes from breaking boundaries and flouting of common standards (Scott, 1996). Reality shows can sometimes provide both beneficial and morally censure perceptions to its viewers. With time, these shows progressively multiply and with the television network seems to have degraded in their thinking capacity. It tends to bring out some higher level of ignorance and worldliness. According to me George F. Will’s position is quite okay concerning what he said about the TV reality shows. People need to refocus on their values and reset their priorities.
