I admit that I really like to talk about one’s dream so the title of the anecdote, “Follow Your Dream”, capture my attention. The anecdote was in full detail that is why I can easily imagine the scenes being described on it I also noticed that the author use flashback style in writing it.
At the first part of the anecdote, it is said that a fund-raising event is held at a ranch. Lots of youth are having difficulty in their studies because of financial problems. Only few are giving their time to find solution with this problem. I can truly say that raising fund for youth like me is such a wonderful task to do. I was confused at first. I didn’t understand what the relation of the fund-raising to the title of the story was. When Monty start telling a story, I soon realized what was the story all about.
While reading the anecdote, ideas are passing on my mind. The man with a name of Monty Roberts starts telling a story about a young boy. Questions started to puzzle my mind. Is the boy somewhat related to Monty Roberts' And as the story goes on, the answer slowly becomes clearer by the order of the event. I was right with my idea. The young boy is Monty Roberts himself.
A diagram can be seen on the first part of the anecdote. I was touched when I learn that the diagram is the boy’s drawing of his views about the ranch that he is planning to have on the future. Having such an imagination is amazing. Many of us have dreams but only few makes illustration on how they can see their future properties. I like the way the boy label his drawing. This only proves that his view of having a ranch is not that simple. He also planned everything in his ranch at that age. I was truly amazed.
I was amazed when I have read the young boy’s dream. This makes me remember my dreams when I was younger. I used to plan about my future, and like him, it looks unrealistic. Even though it seems too hard to achieve it, he still wants it. While reading the story, I can feel the same determination that I gave when I was young. But unlike him, the unrealistic dream of mine slowly disappears and turns to a realistic one.
As I continue reading it, I feel sad for him when he received an “F”. If I was in his position, I might get angry. I can feel that every single detail in the seven-page dream of him is important. Giving an “F” for such an effort can hurt him so much. At first, I have no idea why will a teacher give such a grade. Not until Monty talk to his teacher and ask what the problem within his assignment was.
The conflict happened to be at the middle part of the anecdote. I was shocked by the attitude shown by the teacher. She gave an assignment oh what are the dreams of her students and instead of inspiring them; she insisted that the dream is impossible. She should be the one supporting the boy and giving him advice of how to reach his dreams. How can a teacher let a student lose hope'
I admire the father for his way of supporting his son. There are some parents who command their children on what to do in life. Giving them chance to decide on their own can help them to be a better person. They can learn from their fault and understand what was happening around them. I believe that parents should give advice to their children but they are not the one to make the decision.
Monty Roberts never give up on his dream even though his teacher told him to do so. He still believes that he can do it by working hard. I admire those people who never let poverty be a hindrance for them to have a better future. He holds unto his dreams even if he will receive low grades.
I feel very happy at the part when the author revealed that the young boy being discriminated by the teacher is Monty Roberts himself. He proved that the teacher was wrong and show that he never fail in attaining his dream. Letting his teacher stand at his ranch is a great proof that she was in mistake when she ask the boy to give up his dreams.
I love the part when the teacher feels sorry for what she has done. Maybe she feels guilty for those students who give up their dreams because of her. But on the other side, the teacher is not that bad at all. If the student’s determination to attain his or her dream is as strong as Monty’s determination, they will not let the teacher be the reason for them to give it up. They will face the teacher’s word as challenge instead of discrimination. They will never believe that their dream is unrealistic if they have the strong will to achieve their goal.
“Don’t let anyone steal your dreams. Follow your heart, no matter what.” I was amazed by the quotation given by Jack Canfield. There are people who never mind whether who will decide for their life. But within this quotation, I am sure that most of those people are enlightened. I believe that you will never be happy if someone is controlling you. You can never find the real you if you let other people ruin your life.
I was in 2nd year when I first heard something about “Chicken Soup for the Soul”. They said it was a great book. When I have found out that the story that we are going to read is from the book of “Chicken Soup for the Soul”, I hurriedly read it. They were right. Chicken Soup for the Soul is a great book with different inspirational stories. It is rare to see books with the content like this. I really love to read it.
Recommendation
1. I recommend every teacher to give their students inspiration and let them dream high.
2. I also recommend teachers to help their students when they lose hope.
3. I recommend students to aim higher and never let other’s word be the reason for you to give up.
4. I also recommend students to listen to advice of elders but let your heart decide whether what you think will be good for you.
5. I recommend parents to guide their children to be in the right path but never control them.
6. I also recommend parents to give advice to your children when something is bothering them.

At first, I thought that I will get bored when I read the lesson that we are going to take. I am really not interested when something about war is being discussed. In other words, I don’t like dramatic stories. For me, it seems that it is an uninteresting topic. But this novel changes my views about war.
As our English teacher, Mr. Vennmar San Juan, discuss the novel, I was enlightened. My poor opinion about war is replaced by a fascinating one. I continuously listen all through the discussion. Full of ideas goes into my mind. Victor Frankl’s experience truly inspires me.
Having few ideas about war, I was shocked within the cruelty being shown during war. When you have done something that they consider as sabotage on their plans, they will immediately kill you. I can’t imagine that someone will sentence death as a punishment for such a small act.
It is also said in the novel that other prisoners will be punished if the guilty person don’t give up. I feel pity for those people who take punishment to protect someone else. If I were in their position, I don’t know if I can manage not to eat for a day to protect the guilty person. I admire those people who have done it. Taking punishment for others fault is like a heroic act for the guilty one.
There is a part there wherein a senior block warden talks to the prisoners. It is said that the warden is a wise man. I have proved it by his words. Even though he is the administrator of the prison, he still gave his comments about life to the prisoners. It seems that by just looking on the prisoners, he already knew what they were thinking. He even predicts that giving up hope is the reason for a convict’s death.
When I have learned that the novel was based from the author’s life, I was inspired. Only few people realized that their life is worth something. Victor Frankl is one of them. Even though he encounters different problems in life, he use it to encourage people to live with full of meaning.
