Axia College Material Appendix F For each of three developmental domains: physical, cognitive, and social/personality, identify two major changes or challenges associated with that developmental stage (adolescence, young adulthood, middle adulthood, and late adulthood). Stage of Development | Physical Development | Cognitive Development | Social/Personality Development | Adolescence | Hormonal, physical, and emotional changes in both sexes. | The child may ask more questions, become more confident and perceptive to people and things around them. | Children at this age are trying to figure out who they are and may start to rebel against their parents or other figures of authority. | Young Adulthood | Known as the “peak years”, the body should be in shape, healthy, and the body should be finished developing. | At this stage, the young adult should be working to achieve long term goals, and taking responsibility for their actions, and getting prepared to leave parents home. | At this stage, a person generally establishes a relationship with a mate, learned about responsibility, has possibly gotten married | Middle Adulthood | Physically you start to notices slight changes due to age related deterioration such as, decreased vision, wrinkles, and health problems | Expertise increases, more organized, more committed to work, and can be more spiritual | Possible midlife crisis brought on by stress, may also struggle with empty nest syndrome when their children leave home and venture out on their own. | Late Adulthood | Age related deterioration, and their quality of life may decline. | May develop Alzheimer’s Disease, and they may want to become more spiritual as they become older. | May choose to no longer do the things they once did to avoid responsibility, and they may be retired and may choose to go and come as they please | Young Adulthood-Cognitive Development I think that a child brought up with an authoritative parent will be more apt to make decision that are well thought out. This child will make mistakes just like any other, but for the most part this child can communicate with the parent just like any other parent/child relationship should. The child will be exposed to normal childhood dilemmas of nervousness, embarrassment, and wanting to rebel. This child will be able to go out into the world and find a great job or the perfect spouse and have the parents there to say “Great Job!” Adolescence-Social/Personality Development The child that is brought up with an authoritarian parent will be much harder to handle because the child will have a hard time making their own decisions because they will be scared to choose the wrong one and fear the repercussions. The child may feel unloved even though the parent does love the child. As the child gets older they may rebel, runaway, get pregnant at a young age just to find someone to love them. The love that they feel has been missing. Middle Adulthood-Social Personality Development I think the child that is brought up with the permissive parent will be more inclined to go through a midlife crisis because they are used to getting what they want, not waiting like everyone else, and generally just thinking that they are better than most. A child with a permissive parent generally lets a child do what they want. When that child gets older and they realize that they are not getting any younger, they want to go out and do as they please with no strings attached, just liked they did as a child. Only as an adult there are usually families involved.
