After doing some intense research on the Internet and talking with my ex co workers and current co workers I have found one organization that has caught my eye. The organization that I have found and will be joining is Project Management Institute also known as PMI. Project Management Institute is the world’s leading not for profit membership association for the project management profession. PMI worldwide advocacy for project management is supported by their globally recognized standards and credentials, there extensive research program and there professional development opportunities. They are also known for their schooling for more additional in-depth information where you can receive additional certificates to bring to your career (PMI, 2009). Once I become a member of the Project Management Institute some of the great benefits I will get are the ability to connect with all the peers. PMI has chapters with one locally that I can join to engage face to face with other members. By joining a chapter I will be able to share my experience with projects that I have been working on with other members and also learn new ways of working on projects for new information from other members of the chapter. With being a project team leader through my workplace, I will be more valuable being a Project Management Institute member. PMI can help me with extending my knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques in order to meet requirements of particular projects through my workplace. Project Management Institute will be able to help me improve in some of the areas that my workplace wants me to focus on to help improve our projects. The areas are initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing. In addition of helping me improve in the above areas they can help me with more knowledge in areas that are applicable across nearly every industry: Integration, Scope, Time, Cost, Quality, and Human resources, Communications, Risk Management and Procurement. To conclude, I believe the Project Management Institute will help me become a well rounded and successful individual in my career choice. I think PMI will only broaden the abilities I will be able to bring to the table at my place of employment and future career opportunities I will have in the future.
