Professional Knowledge and Abilities Cynthia Casillas GEN/200 Foundations for General Education and Professional Success June 3, 2011 Mrs. Angela Cranon-Charles Professional Knowledge and Abilities * Identify a professional organization or association in a field that interest you. National Criminal Justice Association (NCJA) is in Washington, D.C., the NCJA represents the state, tribal and local governments on crime prevention and crime control issues. Its members represent all faces of the criminal and juvenile justice community, from law enforcement, corrections, prosecution, defense, courts, victim/witness services, and educational institutions to federal, state and local. * Briefly describe your selected organization or association. The NCJA is a voice in implementing the criminal justice policy since being founded in 1971. As a representative of state, tribal and local criminal and juvenile justice, the NCJA works to promote a balanced to communities public safety and criminal and juvenile justice system problems. The NCJA recognizes the importance of interrelationships among criminal and juvenile justice agencies. Lead by a 17-18 member Board of Directors, the NCJA serves as the formal informant to the Congress of state, tribal and local criminal and juvenile justice needs and accomplishments. Through collaboration with practitioners and policymakers, the NCJA also communicates state, tribal and local views on crime prevention and control to federal executive and other public and private agencies at all levels * Explain how your selected organization or association can contribute towards increasing your professional knowledge and abilities. I believe this organization will assist me in mapping out, work toward and achieve job and personal goals along with giving me better understanding of all the requirements and future expectations with my current educational/career path, . I've looked into NCJA and they have a plethora of information, job opportunities, internships, mentorships, activities and many more options to getting more familiar and acquainted with all they do and have to offer. Reviewing this information has made me more driven to further my education to be competitive in this job market, I believe with the information given and provided by NCJA I am a step ahead of the rest, more insight into what they can do to increase my professional knowledge and abilities to acquire and achieve my goal of becoming a criminal profiler/CIA/FBI, more so if I take advantage of everything they have to offer. * Discuss how this knowledge and these abilities can affect your career success. Being knowledgeable in the subject matter of your chosen career path is almost a requirement, without the ability to do the job and the knowledge to do it right, most everyone would find themselves jobless. The knowledge provided by the NCJA is priceless, they give you an inside look into what you could do to get the job, what the requirements are, what’s expected from you on a daily basis depending on what your assigned task are, and information to be prepared for whatever they throw at you. Working in the field of criminal justice is challenging and ever changing so having the NCJA to refer to, see new updates and view for guidance is invaluable. From personal experience, I've seen and heard that most employers look for someone who has confidence, knows the job inside and out, and has the required skills to do the job right; the NCJA has the resources to help you achieve that level of competitiveness to make employers take a second look at you. The NCJA is an organization that should be admire and respected for all they do and offer, thanks to them I now have a better idea of what all my future career requires and what I can do to be prepared, with this information, I know I'm ready to tackle any task working in the criminal justice field can throw at me.
