Professional Knowledge and Ability In the professional world, there are many organizations or associations that work hard to help the public and to extend the public’s knowledge by doing something to help. A good example of an organization is The World Association of Industrial and Technological Research Organizations (WAITRO). This organization “is an independent, non-governmental and not-for-profit association established in 1970 to promote and encourage co-operation among industrial and technological research and development organizations” (WAITRO, 2010). This organization contributed greatly to every day citizens and society because of what it does and what it stands for. Technology is part of our daily lives and it just keeps growing. WAITRO focuses on technological research which will help all of us in the long run. Without organizations like these to promote growth, there would not be any growth. One of the organization’s objectives is “to promote technological research and capability building in the developing countries” (WAITRO, 2010). This shows that the organization is really interested in showing others how to do better and advance, even if it means other countries. What the organization does is they set projects based out of different countries that they want to help. This organization can greatly help other in their professional learning and abilities. If one was able to volunteer with this organization, it would be a great experience to help other countries develop their technology. On another aspect, this organization allows regular, average citizens to be part of the help, which allows for more involvement. Because of the involvement with the organization, the member is able to learn how the structure works and how to grow in the technology field. In my specific career field, this organization helps a lot because without technology, my industry of banking would not exsist. I like it that this organization is able to help third world countries develop their technology so that they can help us if we are ever in need. The down side to this would be that with all of these countries having top of the line technology, some of our jobs will start and continue to get sent out of the country for cheaper labor. It is only fair that we all try to advance, technology wise, worldwide, and it is great that there is an organization out there to help with the growth.
