Printing press has allowed information to be spread quickly and accurately. This was particularly useful for communication between scientists, and it also gave authors more prominence and boosted literacy rates by making the printed word ubiquitous. That’s why, even as the printing press gives way to new technologies, its impact on society can’t be ignored. Printing is not something one may think of often, but it does impact our lives everyday. From the morning newspaper to church on Sundays, printing is important to our society. Without printing we wouldnt have books, papers, magazines or many other information tools. To truly understand printing one must look at the machines, processes and technology that has shaped its history. Technology has impacted every industry, but perhaps has really improved the printing industry. The introduction of computers make setting up type and tone much easier. Laser printing and digital printing have sent the process to new heights, allowing printers to do more than ever. High definition abilities make todays printed material of the highest quality ever seen. With the combination of new advances in machinery, processes and technology the printing industry has grown and changed. It is an important part of daily life and with its evolution through history has become even better. As art is said to be a mirror of mood, so are the values of the time reflected in art of an era. The dynamics of the printing have changed dramatically with increased competition from alternative communication media. Print still has a strong role to play far into the future. The challenge as an industry is to educate marketing professionals on the most effective means for integrating multiple media — including print — into a multichannel business communications strategy. The most effective printed communications will be increasingly targeted and relevant to the recipient. Why should we care' What will this benefit' Who will this affect' Today’s world has largely been impacted by the printing industry. Its affected how different generations have perceived the world and highlight’s each era’s unique trends' Printing technology has guided the world into new social, economic and technological advances; it has shaped and been the ‘force’ behind trend setting the future. Businesses are enamoured with it, online and print magazines are devoted to it; movies, enterprises and or celebrities have and are making millions of profitable dollars through printing technologies. Printing Technology has a profound effect throughout society; it affects those who look to the future, those who dwell on the past and those who live in the present. Printed information is affecting a wide variety of enterprises in significant ways, some changes are transitory, some are contradictory and some are even undesirable. In order to breakdown my research on printing technology I’ve highlighted 4 categories: The first category is addressing the ‘inventors’ the force behind this includes the hardware breakthrough’s the people who have and will redirect the way we perceive the world. The second category addreses the ‘workforce’ the men and women affected by the new technological advances. When technologies are introduced into business it shifts the way the businesses operate. In the absence of a huge working force, subject to health, salaries and human mistakes, companies safe millions on capital, whilst trippling their workflow output because of new advances in printing. The third category reflects on how the printing technologies affect the users. The way we view the world inividually is different, instead we’re brain washed to view the 21st century through the eyes of capitalists, who would advertise or sell to us a ‘dream’ in our sleep just to make a profit. The final and of a fourth category used to determine the chronological improvements and changes in the printing processes will give the students an understanding of how printing processes and commercial art evolved. As noted above, I believe that the parallels of printing technology’s significant events in history can best learnt in this order There are four main subcategories of printmaking: relief printing, intaglio, planography, and stenciling or serigraphy. These four main types have both complex and simple ways in which they can be accomplished. Each of these categories may have differing methods, but they all have one main goal, producing multiple copies from one master image.
