Personal Values Week 6 University of Phoenix PA09MBA12F MGT/521 March 3, 2010 Personal Values One of the best ways to improve society and input more quality is to re-evaluate values. Person, family, organization, and even country have its values, and most of the decisions support those values. University of Phoenix Management class gives the opportunity to understand how values effect every day ethical decisions and even discover what we value more. William Institute Ethics Awareness Inventory self-assessment is founded on CORE decision. CORE stands for character, obligation, results, and equity. (WIEA) According to that test my highest score is Results and lowest one is Equity. It means that in my ethical decision Result plays a significant role, and I have to improve approach to Equity. This test would be valuable for business people to analyze their existing values and make any possible changes for an improvement. For example, Kudler Fine Foods store has its strengths and weaknesses based on its values. If I were a manager at Kudler, I would improve marketing and prepare more training based on my personal values and assessment results. According to the assessment, Result plays a vital role in my ethical decisions. As Williams Institute Ethics Awareness mentions, “Your approach to ethics is likely to focus on what could be done to improve the well being of the greatest number of persons.” According to my ethical perspective, I would concentrate on cross training to lower the stress and improve the quality of work. One of the weaknesses of Kudler is its small management team with too many responsibilities. Of course, everyone has priorities at workplace, but it is essential to look ahead and prepare for unexpected events. In case if manager is sick or just needs a vacation; someone should have knowledge for a temporary replacement. If I were a manager at Kudler, I would train my assistant skills important to substitute. Besides, as we learn in Management class, first thing manager should do is to find a replacement. Same technique should apply to other departments, give opportunity to employees learn more and have better understanding of business and not just little part of it. I would use an ethical approach “to improve overall satisfaction by creating a more pleasant environment in which people enjoy working together for the betterment of society”. (The Williams Institute, Results) Moreover, to improve marketing skills I would apply my personal values and ethical perspectives. “Results are needed to indicate that she/he is ‘walking the walk,’” as mentioned on Williams Institute of my Results. As a manager of Kudler Fine Foods, I would concentrate on results of marketing. For example, advertisements through magazines, radio stations, brochures, phone books, and local community should be done consistently. That would enable to gather specific data and to make right decision whether to continue or stop the advertisement. In contrast to Kathy who decided “to take more formal approach to sales and marketing,” I would concentrate more on marketing for greater results. In addition, would create a web-site right away as a vital source of information nowadays. Thus, as a Kudler Fine Food manager I would improve marketing and would create more training for employees according to my personal values and ethical perspectives. I would align my values with Kudler’s to make any possible improvement in organization. “What really counts in reaching an ethical decision is the ‘bottom line,’” as mentioned in the assessment Results. In order to build a successful organization it needs to have strong basement, strong values and highly trained employees to resist any changes within or outside the business.
