Jasmine Cook Pd. 3rd 9-27-09 To Whom It May Concern: I am a soon to be member of the class of 2011. I am a diligent and dedicated student, who has a GPA of 3.6 and are in accelerated classes. In the seventh grade I played the harp, a instrument that is unique and not often taught in school. I also love to help people that’s why I volunteered at the children’s science museum, gifted wrapped at Barns and Nobles, and recently participated in The Choice community service program. I am currently a flag girl on the Thomas Jefferson Marching Vikings Band and a student dance chorographer in my African dance class. Just like any other person, I too have had obstacles to overcome in my life. Growing up it was hard for me to watch as my parents grew farther and farther apart. On April 3rd, 2005 my parents were forced to separate, after fifteen years of marriage. Even though I was only twelve at the time it hurt me tremendously and I grew anti social, fell back on homework, and started to develop a low self esteem. When my father left, it felt as though I had lost my best friend. My father is still apart of my life but I feel there will always be distance between us. As a young adult I have many career goals that defines me as a person. For instance, I want to be involved in the performing arts such as dance and acting. I also would like to help people by being a CSI: agent or a therapist. Another defining goal of mine, is to become a fictional short story author. I would like to make a difference in the world and accomplish all these goals. As a teenager I have many strengths. Some of my strengths are being determined, polite, caring, thoughtful and having a sense of humor. Just like others I too have weaknesses. First is not being able to please everyone, second is taking little comments to heart and third is bottling up my feelings. My strengths and weaknesses are what makes me unique and interesting. Some compelling reasons why the admissions committee should be interested in me is because I believe my academic knowledge will take me far. I worked hard and applied myself to stay on the academic level that I have reached today. I have been in the MSI summer program at the University of Richmond and the Technical and science summer program at J. Sergeant Reynolds Community College. Instead of graduating early I’ve decided not to rush through school, and slip through the cracks. I would rather wait and graduate at my own pace, so when it is time for me to go to college I will be more than prepared.
