Personal Responsibility September 27, 2012 Personal Responsibility Even though many people are just naturally unable to take responsibility. I find that personal responsibility is reaching for excellence because personal responsibility achieves goals and personal responsibility continues your success. And the purpose of this paper is to discuss the reward of college success through personal responsibility What personal responsibility means to me Personal responsibility was not always my top priority. When I started college long ago, I did not take it seriously. I would hang with my friends in the popular lounge called the union and I would wake up and get dressed only for the parties and the boys. At that time I was smoking marijuana and drinking occasionally. I had to drop out of college because I developed a case of depression, it consumed me and I no longer was a student at the university. Hersh and Schneider states (2005), “campuses face the problems of cheating, alcohol, and other drug abuse, violence, and a sharp risk in diagnosed depression and in self destructive behaviors such as anorexia, bulimia and suicide attempts.” Although I may had to start again, I learned that personal responsibility deals with strive for excellence. It deals with wanting your best. For example, before I left college I was a studious student. I sought out tutoring, I stayed late in the math lab, and I spent hours at the library. Also it deals with certain aspects of study and time management. Hersh and Schneider states (2005), “Nonetheless, the evidence is abundant that students typically spend only a small fraction of their time on actual study.” Therefore to avoid not studying I would use time management. For example, if I had one minute to spare, I would do something. Significantly every little thing gets me closer to closing my task. Explain the relationship between personal responsibility and the college success The relationship between personal responsibility and college success is using your time wisely. When there is work to do, the first move I make is time monitor/plan management. It provides me with how to monitor my time throughout the week. One of the things to do is start with a plan to do your assignments at a certain time, and then give yourself a break. Also you can use self discipline to succeed, Ii is best to make it an effort to study instead of watching television and this has been a reflection on my success in success in college. Healthy morals can improve college success tremendously. Hersh and Schneider states(2005), “Personal responsibility and social responsibility involve the moral obligation to both self and community and both forms of responsibility rely upon such virtues as honesty, self discipline, respect, loyalty and compassion. Many Students rely on personal responsibility to succeed in everyday college success; many students are transformed into better people. For instance, when I am in college I notice a change in my character; I become more studious and more responsible. Hersh and Schneider states (2005), “education inevitably affects character either intentionally or unintentionally.” Every day is different task to maintain and it starts with character. The question is do I have self motivation to complete the needed tasks today' There are times when I do. I have set goals for myself, and that is what keeps me going. Likewise personal responsibility continues your success; it can help you with diminishing your weaknesses and grow your strengths. Having personal responsibility causes accomplishments to be more attainable. What plan to put in place for personal responsibility in your education Striving for excellence is getting the job done; this is done with strong work ethics. I have developed a plan to put in practice for personal responsibility. For example, I do not have my own computer. Therefore I use the library and study for a couple of hours. I have noticed that with the problem of no personal computer, I have become attentive with my work. The plan I have put into practice for personal responsibility in my education, is a schedule using time management. The plan is designed for personal and academic responsibility. On the other hand I find students fall into immoral behavior such as drugs suicide attempts, and cheating. Personally I have a plan to eliminate these problems as well, my plan is to practice moral principles I have developed along the years. For example, I have been in trouble for plagiarizing a simple research paper on a favorite celebrity, because I did not take out time to finish my work I resulted in immoral behavior. My professor was very disappointed, I explain the reason, but I still received an “F” and she was still disappointed. Since then I paraphrase and quote all my sources. I try my best to not even use the same sentence. Swaner states(2005), “That college students often fail to engage in decisive behavior when facing moral dilemmas involving drugs, cheating, stealing, infidelity, disobeying authority, or peer pressure.” However, I am still a good student and I have learned the mistakes of immoral behavior. I am learning as I go that the mistake is not meant to hold me down, but to keep me altogether. Some student resolve these issues, some do not. Swaner states(2005), “ resolved such dilemma by letting the issue drop, by doing nothing, by gong along with the situation or by others in it and by letting the problem resolve itself somehow.” Conclusion Personal responsibility deals with striving for excellence. It deals with wanting your best. When I was a student the first time I rarely did what I needed. I have learned to use time management to avoid abusing my time. At first I would only spend a certain amount of time studying; now if I have a minute I use it to do something significantly. The relation between personal responsibility and college success is using your time wisely. The first move I made was monitor and use plan management. It provided time thought out and a plan well started. I have changed since the beginning of my college education; it has made a tremendous difference in my life. And I want to go on so forth and be successful in my endeavors. When time used wisely and plan management is put into place you have a great tool for personal responsibility and college success.
