Kolb explains that different people naturally prefer a certain single different learning style. Various factors influence a person's preferred style: notably in his experiential learning theory model (ELT) Kolb defined three stages of a person's development, and suggests that our propensity to reconcile and successfully integrate the four different learning styles improves as organization mature through our development stages. (Kolb diagrams updated May 2006) Self-Managed Learning is about individuals taking the steps, without the assistance of others, in determining their learning needs, developing their learning goals, identify human and material resources for their learning, choosing and carry out appropriate their learning strategies, and evaluating their learning outcomes. 1.2 Propose ways in which lifelong learning in personal and professional contexts Self-Managed Learning is concerned with process rather than content. These can be roughly divided into five categories:  Metalearning  Strategic Learning  Collaborative Learning  Motivational Learning  Autonomous Learning The resources required for a Self-Managed Learning programme to some extent reflect organisational needs but also the individuals’ preferred learning styles. For example some of the resources of organisations made use of:  Residential  workshops/career planning  work experience/opportunities  projects  secondments  travel  reading Cunningham (1994) identifies characteristics of potential Self-Managed Learning participants that may help them succeed with this method of learning:  need to feel comfortable with change and see it as a learning opportunity  should organizationlcome diversity of culture and individual difference  need to be able to take calculated risks  can integrate data and feelings  able to use mistakes as data rather than make excuses  able to use all experiencescan ‘translate learning across contexts’  do not require a traditional analytical, detached approach The values of effective learning are in why and how it is used. Organizationll-deployed, it is about emancipation and empoorganizationrment, enhancing life through effective learning, for individuals, organisations and communities. The effective learning of organization is  a organizationll-researched set of ideas about how people learn most effectively  a self-assessment instrument to aid self-analysis, diagnosis and strategy  a tool to empoorganizationr people to bring about change, individually and together 1.3 Benefits of self-managed learning to the individual and organization People generally believe that their performance at work has improved and some have taken, or feel ready to take on, more responsibility. Resource need Support required by current bookstore manager and the area manager to ensure training time. Gain experience through application of different processes. Working in different stores with differing formats to understand the requirement of each format type and its nuances. The Thaw Ka Bookstore will use the following ten steps for self-directed learning; continuing professional development; linking higher education with industry, further education, Recognition of Prior Learning, Apprenticeships, Credit Accumulation and Transfer Schemes,  Memory Improvement Basics  Learn in Multiple Ways  Teach What You've Learned to Another Person  Utilize Previous Learning to Promote New Learning  Gain Practical Experience  Look Up Ansorganizationrs Rather Than Struggle to Remember  Understand How You Learn Best  Use Testing to Boost Learning  Stop Multitasking 3.1 The processes and activities required to implement the development plan  Attending a specific training course, conference or workshop  Being mentored by a more senior colleague  Consulting the internet for new or existing information, guidelines etc  Consulting the internet for regulatory intelligence on precedents on other companies products  Reading technical and professional publications  Reading books and articles about management and other soft skills  Preparing to give a presentation (in-house or for a professional group) Writing for publication on a particular topic  E-learning  Work-based project  Short-term attachment to another department or group  Attending an industry or professional body working party  Being coached 3.2 Development activities plan Developmental activities could include:  Taking on a small project;  Work shadowing someone;  Conducting a fact finding visit;  Attending conferences;  Conducting structured literature reviews;  Being seconded to a client organisation;  Undertaking to deliver training or give presentations;  Getting feedback from a mentor;  Using teach yourself guides and online tutorials, etc. 3.3 Reflect critically on own learning against original aims and objectives set in the development plan I have an ongoing commitment to providing high quality modernize bookstore. I have recognised that I need to improve my internet knowledge and skills on a continual basis, in the same self-directed way as expected of the manager. I am passionate about helping the manager fulfil their particular working in job and assisting them in their career development. Working collaboratively with organization bebmaster to maintain, develop and improve internet and network for trainees is one way of achieving this. I seek to be assured that I can meet the challenge of integrating manager care and personal inprovement. To implement a more structured/more rigorously planned approach to teaching and student learning.I recognise a need to develop and enhance my leadership skills, as good leadership is essential to effective bookstore supervision. To promote and encourage reflection (self-assessment) by the manager base on performance of organization. While organization usually reflect on our performance organization infrequently communicate this to others and even less often do organization do so in writing. 3.4 Update the development plan based on feedback and Evaluation Establish a period of time after which organization will assess what progress has been made towards achieving our objectives (perhaps every three months). During that period organization should consult our plan frequently to remind ourself what organization are trying to achieve, otherwise it is very easy to get sucked into our day-to-day responsibilities and neglect our developmental goals. Evaluation of our plan is a key stage in the professional development planning cycle because it enables us to disscover whether the development activity was worthwhile and if and how our skills improved as a result. Organization may want to reflect on what organization are better able to do or how organization might have gained more from an activity. It is almost certain that the experience has thrown up further development needs. Our goals may change and new tasks emerge. Be sure to set a date to review and update frequently to respond to changing needs. 4.1 Solutions to work-based problems In order to progress in our field one must learn how to make solutions of the problems occur, and must be able to describe or investigate the problem. Diagnose the causes of the problem that affects in our personal as well as professional life, mangers should develop strategies and make alternates to resolve the problems occurring in the organization, problem solving helps a lot in decision making as an individual can solve problems and cope up with different situations easily. Problem solving is not a very easy job one as to first analyze the situation properly that have to work on it with keen observation as if one don’t find the right problem can lead to big losses, after we have found it we should create some implementation strategies and implement them. 4.2 Communicate in a variety of styles and appropriate manner at various levels To be bookstore manger, we should be good at communication skills as this skill helps a lot in every situation of life whether a person is with any one or with any situation as a good communicator faces less difficulties comparatively to a person who is no good at communicational skills. One should convey a message or implementation of tasks in such a way that people, employees and your subordinates or followers understands your message clearly and get the right idea or scenario of the message. When organization go out to communicate with people organization have one of four things in mind and four methods of verbal communication are listed below:  Inform  To make a request  Inf luence  Entertain Communication is the transfer of information from one person to another and divides non-verbal communication into four broad categories:  Physical  Aesthetic  Signs  Symbolic Knowledge of non-verbal communication is important managers who serve as leaders of organizational "teams," for at least two reasons: • To function effectively as a team leader the manager must interact with the other members successfully. • The team members project attitudes and feelings through non-verbal communication. Transferable skills are very important because of that can use and effectively apply the specific knowledge and develop through higher education to perform different work or professional roles with mutually supportive. The ability to communicate effectively in social network is examples of a transferable skill area that may have develop through different kinds of online bookstore. 4.3 Effective time management strategies Manktelow (2006) writes that the starting point for effective time management is to set priorities. When I am faced with a variety of choices competing for my attention and time I prioritize things because it will help me decide which path to take. Setting my goals help me identify and focus on my priorities that help me evaluate what needs to be done first. By doing this, I can do things easily and use time effectively. Susan Ward (2011) has pointed out five (5) time management techniques which I have practiced. These are: 1. Recognize you can’t do it all: I decide what roles and activities are important. The important thing is, I am happy and healthy the way I am spending my time. I don’t force myself into doing things I don’t like to please other people. 2. Prioritize: I plan things and review my list of what to do on a particular day and what things that must be done. I give attention on the most important activity on hand. 3. Learn to say “Yes” and “No”: When I am ask to commit on something, I would say “no” if I really can’t and “yes” if it’s equally important to me. 4. Unplug: There are times when it’s important or useful not to “be connected” all the time. Recognize what situation must be given attention and disregard things that appear to be nuisance. 5. Take time off: Weekend is my personal and family day. If I need to be with my family, I set time for them. I also allow myself to take some refreshing time alone with my friends. Good time management helps me control my time and life. I have maintained a balanced work and personal activities. This gave me flexibility in dealing with challenges in life and respond to new opportunities.
