Determining Your Perfect Position LDR-531 Dr. Ethel Vesper Determining Your Perfect Position The purpose of this draft is to show the reader the importance of adding a Production Coordinator position to the Orange Texas sites management team. The author will explain how this position will be useful to the organization and the strengths and weaknesses associated with someone having a servant leadership style filling the position. The author will provide documentation and diagrams to strengthen the proposal for a new added management position. Currently the Production Forman handles all decisions on how items are handled in the field. This consists of all production related scheduling in coordination with sales staff off site and warehouse inventory personnel. This position is also required to be at all corporate meetings with the Plant Manager, Human Resource manager, Safety Manger, and other top management personnel. With the increasing demand for quality and production standards this individual is being over extended in the current job description. This lack of focus on individual items and field oversight can lead to increased downtime due to equipment malfunction and miss-planning towards grades produced and repair schedules. The scheduling of department work items is essential to staying on time and on quality with regard to our customer. It is this author’s opinion that a new managerial position needs to be added reporting directly to the Production Foreman. This position titled the Production Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating maintenance scheduling and turnarounds while also scheduling monthly grade demands for operation employees to follow. This added employee will make adequate scheduling across departments more accurate and dependable while allowing the Production Foreman the opportunity to meet his requirements to corporate meetings and events. Diagram of Organizational Structure The leadership and coordinating position that is outlined above incorporates a leadership structure that involves communication between several departments as well as an upper management reporting criterion. The servant leader would fit this position well as it involves many aspects of the matrix organizational structure. The servant leader is focused on implantation and making sure individual talents are used effectively. “They are interested in making a difference in the lives of their people and, in the process, impacting the organization” (Vinod & Sudhakar, 2011). A supportive style rather than a dominant style like is being suggested for this position would not be as effective in coordinating cross departmental interactions. The position of the Production Coordinator will not be able to take into account certain issues associated with each department when setting schedules. Tasks will need to be assigned and held accountable for not completing jobs or tasks on time. The dominant style found in the servant leader will be ideal for making sure timelines get scheduled properly and executed on time (de Vries, Bakker-Pieper, & Oostenveld, 2010). The servant leaders’ value to duty will be a great asset to this position as he or she will not be looking for monetary reward or acknowledgement for consistent performance and quality scheduling. This individual will strive to perform for the company out of their own self-satisfaction of a job well done. This position is for decision making and scheduling purposes. The individual filling this position with a servant leadership style will need to remain focused on the goals associated with the production of raw materials and maintenance of equipment in the field. The author would fit well into this position but would find limited opportunities for advancement. This dedication to duty in the position being held would eventually lead to a lag behind other managers in a competitive race to future advancement. Some friendships would be sacrificed due to the discarding of openness and constructive ideas regarding scheduling practices. The manager is responsible for giving specific orders and directions during important product runs and busy times of the year like high market demand for certain grades. The author feels closely related to the position being described and inspires greatly to fill a position of such importance. A background in planning and organizing related to the education environment has given the author the confidence needed to examine such a position and find significant amounts of information to back up an organizational need for such a manager. Working with a previous knowledge of daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly planning has allowed for a solid foundation, incorporated with the individual’s knowledge of the petrochemical environment and this company’s core product. A working knowledge of different grades, time schedules of product runs, and maintenance completion timelines gives the author a higher level of competency for the job description associated with this position. A high level of organizational awareness and accountability held by the author makes them an ideal candidate for this new management assignment. The author has given information regarding an addition to the management team at the Honeywell Orange Texas site. The author feels that this position would be a good fit and strives to be in an area of such importance in the near future. The leadership style held by the author makes a coordinating job an ideal location for someone with previous planning and coordinating skills and attributes. References Vinod, S., & Sudhakar, B.
