Parody

Rewrite - “Parody” I am the cowardly lion, or I used to be called that at least. I live in the forest right off from the yellow brick road. I have the title “King of the Forest”, but I did not used to live up to that name. I was extremely shy, I hardly talked to anyone, until one day. I encountered a young girl wearing red shoes and her interesting friends. I am going to tell you the story of that eventful time that gave me a whole new perspective on life. One eerie night while laying on my rock, I suddenly heard singing. Being shy, I quietly stepped down off my rock, and crept behind a tree. I still could not hear them as well and moved closer and closer until the singing was completely audible. The figures were coming closer, and I noticed that one of the figures was a young red head, the other two were odd looking. They were a scarecrow and a tin man, I thought to myself, “You do not see that everyday.” So after a minute, I mustered up all the courage I had and went out from behind my tree roaring. I tried to act tough and play it off like I really was “King of the Forest.” I said “Put ‘em up, put ‘em up!” Then I tried to fight the tin man and scarecrow, while the little girl stood off to the side, frightened. I had never frightened someone before, it felt good to see the fear that I brought on. But that annoying little dog was barked the entire time, so I wanted to bite him to hush the puppy up. When I started chasing him, the red head chased me and slapped me across the face. I broke down crying, and that is when my true colors started showing. After a while of sobbing, the young lady told me about the Wizard of Oz, and how he could give me courage if I asked for it. I cautiously agreed and the four of us all went skipping down the yellow brick road to Emerald City, singing. When we finally arrived to the Emerald City, Dorothy and I were chosen to go in to meet the Wizard of Oz. We walked down a long corridor and finally approached the room, I was terrified out of my mind. The Wizard was horribly scary, he talked in a loud, deep voice, and all we saw was a floating head with green smoke. The wizard tells us that he will only grant me my wish, which was courage, if I brought back the witch’s broomstick, even the idea made me shiver with fear. I wanted courage so terribly bad though, so all five of us set out to the witch’s castle. On our way, this huge herd of flying monkeys came out of nowhere, I thought I was going to pass out from the fear of the situation. After that all I noticed was Dorothy and Toto get carried off by one of the monkeys, I had no idea what to do. After hours of pacing back and forth holding my tail, Toto finally runs up to us. Toto led tin man, scarecrow, and me to the castle. We managed to get some guards outfits and sneak in, my heart was pounding the entire time. The three of us finally managed to free Dorothy. We noticed the witch getting madder and then she must have been pushed over the edge, because she set scarecrow’s arm on fire. The day was saved by Dorothy who threw water on him, but got some on the evil witch, and see melted right before our very eyes. We were all so proud of ourselves, and the soldiers were too, because they gave us the broomstick, as a reward. So we are off to the Wizard, with broomstick in tact. When we get to the Wizards lair, Toto somehow managed to pull the curtain open. We all stood shell-shocked at what we saw, the wizard was just an ordinary man, nothing to be scared of. The man tells us that we already possessed what we were looking for, but he gave me an awesome medal symbolizing my courage. We heard the wizard tell Dorothy that he could take her back home, she agreed, and went on the balloon with him. He left scarecrow, tin, and me behind though. The three of us felt so special. We all got what we was looking for, without even knowing that the three of us got our wishes. I finally could live up to my name, “King of the Jungle.”
