Does civilization really mean only to ‘enjoy’ the so called freedom without sense of responsibility ignoring the law of the land and should this be the attitude of the ‘freed’ citizens then, either the freedom was untimely bestowed upon them or it would not be improper to say that they are still unfit for the Democratic liberty. The citizens are at times heard boasting unashamedly of their deeds of breaking law and order and some of the so called leaders of the Democratic set up are seen patting their backs as if a job of chivalry was accomplished. In the present Democratic arrangement, being a strong arm (Dabang) with proven record of visits to the prison has become prequalification for stepping in to the arena of politics. It is very painfully recollected that in the year 1996 local University elections were held in which Mr. xxxx was also a contestant like many others. This fellow had more than one criminal cases registered against him(and some cases were for heinous crimes well known to many including me!) while, he was enrolled in the University unquestioned. As mentioned earlier that the University elections are sponsored by the political parties, this person was also nominated and sponsored by a political party leading in the state which spent huge money and all the means for the victory of their candidate and when came the poll results, as expected, he was winner. Mr. xxxx, basically enrolled in University was reckoned as potential leader (with his above mentioned qualification) of that political party and he also started behaving as if a member of the state legislative assembly. And very soon the assembly elections were declared and as expected Mr. xxxx filed his nomination under the banner of the same party who had sponsored his candidature for the University elections. With the EFFORTS & in put of the party he became sitting MLA. What happened to the criminal cases registered against Mr. xxxx and on the face of his proven criminal record how could he appear in the polls and became MLA ultimately' Please do not get perturbed now as, the story of Mr.xxxx went ahead and in the year 2004 he became Hon’ble State Minister! What to say, and to whom' The so called Democracy - freedom of thought and action. Going beyond this is more painful to swallow the sugar coated pill in as much as the police force which used to trace & track Mr.xxxx for his criminal atrocities was deployed as security and escort to safe guard this Hon’ble State Minister. This is not the solitary incident on record but, it is one of several such breath chocking stories in the state of u.p. The political system in the existing Democratic set up allows all liberties to a person to prove his might (in any form) and hence the criminals are free to file their nominations in the polls even while staying behind the bar. Most incredibly, some of them dictate their terms and a few of them get elected too! How could a law abiding citizen expect justice in the situation stated above' The Indian constitution framed and in force since freedom for the prevailing Democratic set up has under gone several amendments since its inception with a view to help the subjects. This could be achieved through multi stepped process in the parliament and the resolutions for effecting the amendment are passed with the consent of the political leaders. Has any one of them ever thought of the situation narrated above' Why everyone has turned eyes and sitting tight lipped on these considerations' Should it be reckoned to is their silent connivance as their own stakes are involved and any move to bring in reform would affect them adversely culminating in their deserved political death'
