HIV is a human immune virus- This virus only infects humans. The effect of this virus is to create a deficiency in humans, it causes there immune system in their body to begin to work poorly, The virus is a organism which means that it is unable to reproduce by itself. The virus reproduces in the machinery of the human cells in the body.
AIDS-Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome:
Aids is acquired because it can only be passed someone becomes infected with this virus by someone else. It affect the bodies immune system causing the immune system to be unable to fight off germs such as bacteria and viruses that cause a person to become ill. It casues the immune system to become deficient and work poorly. People who suffer from aids have more challenges to face then those with any other type of std because they have a wider range of diseases and infections that they must deal with.
There are many ways that HIV can be transmitted from one person to another. Sexual Intercourse, Direct contact with infected blood, from an infected mother to her unborn child.
Sexual intercourse is the most common way for HIV to be spread. When someone comes in contact with an infected person the virus is passed. The virus enters the body through sexual relations between people. It is transmitted through the lining of the vagina, penis, rectum and mouth. The bodily fluids that are passed during sexual intercourse is the cause of the passing of the virus. Why many people are also questioning kissing as a source there has been no proven evidence that a person can pass enough of the virus through the saliva that is swapped between two people. The virus only spreads tiny amounts yet not enough to be passed. However they do recommend that a infected person tries to avoid it just for the off chance that it still may be passed.
Direct contact with infected blood is also a way for the virus to be passed. Dirty needles is a way to pass the virus. When a infected person uses a needle a quanity of there blood is left on the needle so that when a un-infected person uses it the infected users blood enters the un-infected persons blood stream. In health care it can also be caused the same way. If someone is having blood drawn and the health provider is accidently stuck by the needle this can casue the virus to then enter there blood stream. Blood transfusions also casue the transmission of the virus. If someone who is infected with the virus gives blood with out giving up the information or unknowingly has the virus and gives blood, it can be passed on to a person receiving the blood transfusion. However when someone gives blood there are screening test that are know being done to make sure that there is no infected blood being kept in the lab for transfusions.
Passing of an infected mother to an unborn child is the other leading cause of transmission. When a infected woman is infected and is untreated she stands a chance of passing on the disease to her unborn child. However if the mother of the unborn child begins to take a anti-hiv drug there is a reduction in the childs chances of acquiring the virus. The only other way to prevent it is to have a c-section so that the child does not pass through the main infected areas. By doing this it reduces the childs risk down to 1 to 2% of catching the disease.
When a patient who is infected with hiv becomes an aids patient there are more changes that happen to there immune system. When someone has hiv the test can most of the time come back negative. It takes longer for the antibody to pass thorough the body and become positive for the aids virus. When testing for the aids virus they test for the antibodies that are there instead of just for the virus. Aids is a lot more difficult to live with then the hiv virus. When a person is diagnosed with aids it is because the t-cell count has come back below 200 where a normal test would come back over 1000, however there are other infections that can cause the t-cells to drop. HIV actually destroys cells known as CD4 cells. These are cells that are used to fight off infections. When CD4 counts drop below 200 a person is diagnosed with hiv/aids. When people are diagnosed with hiv they have a chance of getting treatment and delaying aids from coming into play.
When a person is diagnosed with aids there immune system has already became deficient. They had first been diagnosed with the HIV virus which had already attacked there immune system was already being attacked. So by the time the person has been diagnosed with aids there immune system is already weak. They have a harder time fighting off diseases. Your innate immune system is not capable of fighting off certain diseases that you will deal with. Your body has to adapt to the response of the immune system to work on fighting of the disease or virus.
There are a couple of different treatments that a patient can go through antiretroviral drug treatment or combination therapy.
Antiretroviral drug treatment is not a cure for aids or hiv it only helps a person to live longer with the illness and can keep them from becoming very ill for many years. The person will have to continue to take the drugs that are needed for the rest of there lives. There are many different types of prescriptions that a person can take. There is antiretrovirals, anti-HIV and anti-aids drugs, HIV antiviral drugs and ARVs. These pill help the immune system from becoming too weak to fight off all of the infections that have already been cause by the disease in the first place.
Combination therapy is when a person takes one or more of the prescription drugs at a time. In most cases it helps the person to have a better chance at fighting of some of the viruses symptoms that come with the virus. There are however certain pills that are a combination pill. This means that there are pills that contain a few of the drugs into one pill so it makes it simplier for the person. They will only have to take the one pill to enable the same affect as taking many drugs.
The biggest precautions that a person with hiv can take to prevent from spreading it is to not have sexual contact or share needles with someone that is not infected. If they are diagnosed with it and there partner is not then it is in there best interst to discuss the situation with there partner and explore the options of what they want to do and the challenges they are going to face. The person will also need to take precaution when going to the doctor and at there place of employment. When it comes to open wounds they need to make sure that they keep them covered and if the blood is to get onto anything they need to be sure they are the one to take care of it and not let anyone who is not diagnosed with it touch the blood for a fear they could come in contact with the virus.
There are many orginazations that help spread the word on Hiv and aids awareness. They make sure that people are more aware of the outcome of those with aids and hiv and the challenges they face everyday. Many of them also make sure that you know how to prevent the virus and go on with life without risking your health. When people are more aware of what can happen to them when they are not careful and are irresponsible they risk dealing with this outcome. There are so many people that are still unaware of the disease and the challenges that is why there are so many awareness groups out there to help make sure that we are more aware of what is being done today to make sure that people are aware. Hiv and aids is something that you will live with for the rest of your life if you are ever diagnosed with it in the end.
