Our_Deepest_Fear...

“Our Deepest Fear” by M. Williamson is a poem that speaks to the heart of most people. It is a poem that makes us reflect on our lives. It also makes us realize that most times we are not living up to our full potential, and that we are actually scared of trying our best and reaching our full potential. “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, our deepest fear ts that we are powerful beyond measure.” This statement is the most powerful statement out of the whole poem. It is simply saying that we are not scared that we are not good enough, but we are scared that if we tried, we would be more powerful than we imagined. This statement is very true when it comes to school, because many times, we do not try our best at the work we do. Many are worried about what their friends will think if they get good grades and succeed in class. This statement is also very true in regards to life. We could be a beeter person if we tried, but many don’t want to try. They settle for where they are at, and do not push themselves to succeed. “We ask ourselves who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous'” This line speaks to the fact that many times, people do not have high self esteem. We always second guess ourselves in the things that we do. “Actually, who are you not to be' You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightening about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We were born to manifest the glory of God that is within us.” As children of God, it is our duty to try our best and live up to our full potential. God gives us that mandate to “be fruitful and multiply.” Which simply means, in whatever you do, be productvie and make it known that you are trying your best. When other people see you striving for perfection, it will push them to try harder. If you do not try your hardest, then there is not point of you even trying. You are not showing the world your light, or that you are capable. “It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.” Everyone has the power to succeed in life. We just have to push ourselves, and as we push ourselves others will begin to see the effort and begin to push themselves as well. “As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” This statement says, that once we realize what was holding us back and begin to change it, it allows others to realize the same thing.
