Organizational Planning Worksheet
Complete each section below and cite your sources when necessary.
Name a Fortune 500 company in the following textbox:
|Wal-Mart |
List the company’s internal and external stakeholders in the following chart:
|Internal stakeholders |External stakeholders |
|Senior Management |Customers |
|Sponsors |Suppliers |
|Project Manager |Competitors |
|Core Team |Regulators |
| |Licensing Agencies |
What is the company’s mission and vision'
| Wal-Mart's advertised mission statement and its advertising slogan are the same: |
| |
|"We save people money so they can live better." |
| |
|In addition to this mission statement, the company looks to its founder, Sam Walton for a company "purpose": |
| |
|“If we work together, we’ll lower the cost of living for everyone…we’ll give the world an opportunity to see what it’s like to save and |
|have a better life.”(Broughton, 2009) |
|Wal-Mart Stores Inc. must be a "company of the future" that embraces advances such as electronic health records or hybrid cars to drive |
|down costs, keep prices low and tackle issues the government may not be able to solve |
Company goals
List at least one company goal that can be accomplished through a strategic plan:
|The convergence of operational efficiency strategies is causing supermarkets to become customer irrelevant and vendor inefficient. |
|Multi-channel shoppers are leaving the undifferentiated supermarkets for the clear value propositions offered by "alternative formats." |
|Simultaneously, supermarkets are becoming less attractive as product distributors for CPG manufacturers who want to do business with |
|more efficient operators. (Murray, 2009) |
|To build a very strong and broad consumer base |
List at least one company goal that can be accomplished through an operational plan:
|Its operational goals focus on efficient logistics requiring technology and inventory management systems to help reduce costs so it can |
|be passed on to the customer. |
|It is to provide quality merchandise at an affordable low cost to consumers. |
Insert a SWOT analysis in the following chart:
|Strengths |Weaknesses |
|Loyal Customers |Carry Large Inventories |
|Great Pricing |Stopped buying American |
|Great Locations |Staff in mainly part time and do not receive benefits |
|Opportunities |Threats |
|Expand to other countries |Current economy |
|Improve Local Communities Perception |Employee unions |
|Promote fair trade and human labor laws |Warehouse retailers such as Costco |
Insert strategic and operational plans:
|Save Money. Live Better. |
|Price Leadership – The Company is well known for its “Every Day Low Pricing”, but Wal-Mart is aiming to give the consumer greater value |
|for each product category. By achieving price leadership Wal-Mart hopes to ward off attempts by other retailers such as Target from |
|gaining market share. |
|Wal-Mart plans on having the best prices in order to compete with and excel over other retailers and grocery stores. By doing this both |
|the internal and external stakeholders will excel within the company. |
|Sam Walton believed in three guiding principles in his strategy planning they were to provide the customer with good value and service, |
|to have a good relationship with its associates, and to be involved with the community. |
|One of the reasons why the company leads the way as the largest marketing business is derived from the company's efficiency in |
|logistics. The use of technology and inventory management systems helps keep product prices at a discount so shoppers can buy and |
|maintain their wallets. |
|The impact that the internal and external stakeholders have with an operational plan is that they will know that they are sought after |
|and will grow not only in the United States but also world wide. |
