Organizational Behavior Forces Discussion Team E Katrice Bottoms, Donell Spivey Jr., Stephanie Woodruff MGT/307 12/09/2009 Mabel Menard Organizational Behavior is so important for an organization to operate their business. We know every organization their ultimate target is to maximize profit by satisfying customers need, want and demand successfully. If any organization wants to do business for long time they must have to organize their business organization to compete in a high competitive global market. That’s why the management of any organization is very sincere to operate their employees in a dynamic way. Organizations operate their functional activities by some elements, which affect organizations. Structure: Structure defines the formal relationship and use of people in the organization. Different people in an organization are given different roles and they have certain relationship with others. Those people have to be related in some structural way so that their work can be effectively coordinated. To manage organizational behavior, an organization needs to focus on hiring, maintaining, developing and utilizing the skills of their human capital. In addition to maintaining quality employees, it is important for an organization to monitor and manage employee interactions with their coworkers and their customers. By understanding these interactions and the skills of each employee, manager is able to place employees in positions they are best suited for. Restructuring is an internal force that can impact organizational behavior, you have a group of people that have worked together good then you might have three people leave form this group that causes a down fall in the organization, because you have an organization that was performing well with its original members. Now the organization has to go back to the drawing board and see where these three new people will fit in to keep this group progressing . First of all, it is ideal that all businesses in general have a mission statement. The purpose of a mission statement defines the purpose/existence of the business. It helps people know what the non-profit is trying to do. It also helps the organization itself with difficult decisions. If there is ever doubt, they can reflect back to it's mission statement and see if the decisions needed to be made will fit. The policies that most personally and directly affect the members of the organization are those that teach the members the most about the organization's values and culture. Organizations have many policies that have little to no impact on its members except in special situations. Other policies are instituted for statutory reasons, but have slight impact on a day to day basis. The policies that have the greatest impact on the individuals in any organization are those that affect promotions, separations, school or training selections, family issues, and assignments, i.e. the personnel policies. An individual learns more about the values of their organization from its personnel policies than any other single source. Competition can force an impact on organizational behavior while you have people in the group that are trying to move up in the corporate world competition can be an distraction when the group is trying to meet certain goals for the company. The relationship between the environment and organizational structure is especially important. Organizations are open systems and depend on their environment for support. Generally, more complex environments lead to greater differentiation. The trend in organizations is currently away from stable (mechanistic) structures to more adaptive (organic) structures. The advantage is that organizations become more dynamic and flexible. The disadvantage is that integration and coordination of activities require more time and effort. References
