Opposing Gay Marriage
Opposing Gay Marriage
A battle has been in progress for years over whether equal rights and equal protection against discrimination should be extended to homosexuals. In this rough draft essay I will briefly discuss reasons why gay marriages shouldn’t be allowed first of all it is a disgrace from what marriage is supposed to be for, secondly God Said that it was an abomination and that you shall not lie with the same sex. But obviously same sex couples are paying a least amount of attention to what God says about gay marriage. The topic of homosexual marriages is a common issue today. This topic has been debated bringing up many valid points, but the fact of the matter is that homosexual marriages are wrong and we, as a country, should not condone such acts (2009 Bidstrup, Scott.) Marriage is a unique practice, in that it is both a religious sacrament and legal registration controlled by the state. Marriage is also the institution whereby men and women are joined in a special kind of social and legal dependence for the purpose of founding and maintaining a family. Not for two of the same sex getting together and playing mummy and daddy to adopted children and insulting the real reason and purpose of marriage. Although some same sex marriages may be capable of coping financially, the negative influence on children raised in their household has been statistically proven. Not only would same sex families’ deal with negative suggestions in terms of their children, but most religions in America glared upon the union of same sex relationships and restrict marriage to one man and one woman (2009 Bidstrup, Scott.)
I am a Christian man that comes from a Christian household and I was always taught growing up to love your wife as Christ love the church. I love my wife dearly and we are totally against gay marriage. The Bible doesn't identify people as homosexual. It identifies their behavior, and does not use the words gay or homosexual; however it does
Describe homosexual behavior. The Bible clearly indicates that people who practice homosexuality are in sin, but that the way is open for them, as for other sinners, to turn from their sin and be forgiven if they trust in Christ's sacrifice as payment for their sins. In (Leviticus 18:22) we read: Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind; it is abomination. And in (Romans 1: 26) For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. In (1Timothy 1), homosexuals are equated with lawless, disobedient, ungodly, sinners, murderers, kidnappers and liars. And in 1 Corinthians 6, they are described as among the unrighteous, such as fornicators, idolators, adulterers, effeminate, thieves, drunkards, covetous, revilers, extortioners, who will not inherit the kingdom of God. Unless they repent from there wicked ways. The argument of same-sex marriage is important, not only for the religious and legal precedent, but because the welfare of families, especially the interest of children now and in the future. If gay marriage was allowed, it could bring about change
To the traditional way of thinking for today’s youth. I get worried sometimes about my
Children in the society and the effect it my have on them if they were to see a gay couple together in a public place. I had an uncle who cheated on his wife in an undercover relationship with another man he had two kids with his wife a 6 year old daughter and a 10 year old son when she found out that he was gay she started keeping the kids around her more often than usual because he started acting to gay around them. She finally got a
Divorce from him and got full custody of there children. And he end up being with his gay lover after all. As his kids got other they started to see how he had became and didn’t want to see him like that because they were too ashamed of his homosexual acts. Unfortunely it wasn’t a good ending for my uncle he end up with HIV and suffer 5 more terrible tormented years from the disease and finally died from full blown AIDS. It doesn’t pay to be gay it is an uncivilized act that should be damned forever. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed.
Gay marriage relationships does nothing at all to provide the states attention to broadcast to society accept that it is wrong, so there is no reason to award them the precious benefits of marriage. The debate over whether the state ought to recognize gay marriages has far focused on the issue as one of civil rights. Such a treatment is mistaken because state discovery of marriage is not a worldwide right. States regulate marriage in many ways besides denying men the right to marry men, and women the right to marry women. Approximately half of all states prohibit first cousins from marrying, and all prohibit marriage of closer blood relatives, even if the individuals being married are sterile. In all states, it is illegal to attempt to marry more than one person, or even to pass off more than one person as one's spouse. Some states restrict the marriage of people suffering from syphilis or other venereal diseases. Homosexuals, therefore, are not the only people to be denied the right to marry the person of their choosing (2004 Adam K.)
I do not claim that all of these other types of couples restricted from marrying are correspondent to Gay couples. I only bring them up to demonstrate that marriage is heavily regulated, and for a good reason. When a state recognizes a marriage, it gives upon the couple certain benefits which are costly to both the state and other individuals. Collecting a deceased spouse's social security, claiming an extra tax exemption for a spouse, and having the right to be covered under a spouse's health insurance policy are just a few examples of the costly benefits associated with marriage. In a sense, a married couple receives a financial support. Why' Because a marriage between to unrelated heterosexuals is likely to result in a family with children, and broadcast of society is a convincing state interest. For this reason, states have, in changeable degrees, restricted from marriage couples unlikely to produce children.
A small minority of married couples are infertile. However, not including sterile couples from marriage, in all but mainly the obvious cases such as those of blood relatives, would be costly. Few people who are sterile know it, and fertility tests are too expensive and oppressive to mandate. One might argue that the barring of blood relatives from marriage is only necessary to prevent the conception of hereditarily defective children, but blood relatives cannot marry even if they undergo sterilization. Some couples who marry plan not to have children, but without brain-reaching technology, not including them are impossible. Elderly couples can marry, but such cases are so rare that it is simply not worth the effort to restrict them. The marriage laws, therefore, ensure, although incorrectly, that the huge bulk of couples who do get the benefits of marriage are those who bear children (2004 Adam K.)
One may argue that lesbians are capable of procreating using artificial insemination, so the state does have an interest in recognizing lesbian marriages, but a lesbian's sexual relationship, committed or not, has no bearing on her ability to reproduce. Perhaps it may serve a state interest to recognize gay marriages to make it easier for gay couples to adopt. However, there is sufficient evidence for example, David Popenoe's Life Without Father that children need both a male and female parent for proper development. The differences between men and women extend beyond anatomy, so it is important for a child to be taken care of by parents of both sexes if a child is to learn to function in a society made up of both sexes.
Some argue that the link between marriage and reproduction is not as strong as it once was, and they are correct. Until recently, the primary purpose of marriage, in every society around the world, has been breeding. In the 20th century, Western societies have downplayed the procreative aspect of marriage, much to our damage. As a result, the happiness of the parties to the marriage, rather than the good of the children or the social order, has become its primary end, with devastating consequences. When married persons care more about themselves than their responsibilities to their children and society, they become more willing to abandon these responsibilities, leading to broken homes, a plummeting birthrate, and countless other social pathology that have become rampant over the last 40 years. Homosexual marriage may not be the cause for any of these pathologies, but it will worsen them, as the yielding of marital benefits to a category of sexual relationships that are necessarily sterile can only widen the separation between marriage and procreation. ( 2004 Adam K.)
Bill Bennett stated in the Washington post that Marriage is not a uninformed construct; it is an honorable estate based on the different, opposite nature of men and women and how they refine, support, encourage and complete one another. To insist that we maintain this traditional understanding of marriage is not an attempt to put others down. It is simply an acknowledgment and celebration of our most precious and important social act. And I strongly agree with Bill, I feel that we must stand firm on the true meaning, understanding and purpose of the way marriage is suppose to be and that is one man and one woman united together in a long lasting, and honorable relationship.
