Oppressive government vs. No government
Resolved: Oppressive government is better than no government.
Definition of terms: No government: a place without laws and without a governing system set up in the society. Oppressive: cruel or hard to bear. Anarchy: society without a ruler. Government: the system or form by which a community or other political unit is governed
In the real world, people need laws and rules to live by. Without a government, it would be chaotic. People can’t handle too much freedom. While people have common sense, it’s rarely used. If we are seeing shootings, homicides, here with a democracy, how are we so sure we won’t see more of it not three times worse crime than what we are experiencing without a government. An oppressive government can enforce the law while no government cannot. While it might be a cruel and harsh government, it can protect its citizens. An oppressive government can restrict the freedom of a person’s movement, but if one follows as they are told, and obey, they are almost guaranteed security and safety from each other. No government also means no military. Who’s there to protect you' How would you fend yourselves against other countries' How do you protect yourself from another 9/11 happening' How are you going to be ensured security, because if you really take a look, it’s the oppressive governments that usually have the tightest security and military forces. No matter how oppressive the government might be it still has laws and rules that keep people in check, and consequences for breaking such laws. This keeps a person safe and sound. With anarchy there is no protection. In many areas where anarchy has reigned or is reigning people must hire gaurs to make sure their things aren’t stolen, neither they nor their children are harmed. I’d rather have the ultra-strong protection and oppression than have to fend for myself on every little thing because there’s no repercussion for law breakers. With an oppressive government, with people living in constant fear, the chance of petty crimes being committed decreases sharply, because they know there are harsh consequences that are going to be in effect. People won’t dare steal, kill, smuggle illegal drugs in a government that doesn’t BS around. Because there would be no form of police I’m guessing, crime rates would sky rocket. And also another thing that is not good with no government is we would also fall into a deep economical depression. Everything would be for free, YAY! But how would we be able to pay people to work, there would be no incentive to work anymore because the one thing that drives the world, which is money, is missing. There would be no health care, no taxes. Yes that sounds good, but where would the money come from to fix the roads, update buildings, and so much more cause there will be definitely no body to do it for free. I won’t. I know that much. The real world is not an all you can eat buffet. We wish so but it’s really not. With an oppressive can boost the economy because it can actually create more jobs because the government needs a strong security force to control the people, and it may force advances in technology, Russia and Sputnik is an example. Also the world does not have enough food, shelter and needs for everyone. So with a no government society, we are going to see constant competition for resources. And also what about the already homeless and jobless people that can’t even support themselves. What would happen to them' Because right now it’s the government helping. So if you take away the main part of the equation, the government, it equals to disaster. Also no government doesn’t have a good structure. A government is supposed to be structural and have ground but when we don’t have that we have chaos. An example of what an oppressed government compared to no government is Iraq. Sadam Hussein was a very horrible dictator and ran an oppressive government. He killed many people true but he had one of the most stable and developed governments in the world. When their government was taken away, this scenario surfaced: people living in tents, no clean water, no air condition, lots of crime, compared to when it had the oppressive government in place and it was stable. So the question is which would you rather have: no government while you are suffering, living in a tent, no clean water, or with an oppressive government with a fairly good house (no mansions are guaranteed) air condition, sipping cold pina coladas. The choice is up to you.
