Online education allows students to learn at their own pace, while traditional education gives students the tools to succeed in a more competitive environment. In my experience with online classes, I have found that they are not any more difficult that traditional classes, nor are they any easier. Online classes present the same level of difficulty, but they are much more convenient. No set time is established for when and where you work. Courses are accessible from any computer, and usually twenty-four hours a day. There is also a significant amount of one-on-one time with your instructors that would not be available at school. Online teachers are available through phone, e-mail, and sometimes fax. The material covered in online courses versus traditional high school courses is not in question (it is basically the same) but rather, the way it is presented. Online classes offer more direct assignments. Many times, students read a lesson and are tested on what they have read. This also helps develop reading comprehension. Keeping a steady pace throughout your online experience is a must, but there is a great deal of convenience that is included in this parameter. Students can access their courses anytime, and from anywhere in the world. Although the system goes through monthly upgrades, an entire day is not usually sacrificed. The progress in traditional courses taken in high school are not dependant upon the student being present. This causes pupils to fall behind in their school work and more time is taken to get caught up. Hypothetically speaking, if a student was sick, or had an appointment things that many students miss school because of they could postpone their progress without the difficulty of having to catch up. All students need a certain amount of personal training in a class and online classes make this especially easy to accomplish. The traditional learning environment includes, in some cases, a classroom with nearly thirty students with one teacher, and about forty-five minutes to get through the day's work. This would allow only a little longer than a minute for each student to converse with their instructor on a personal level. Online courses however, offer much more one-on-one time that leads to a greater understanding of the material covered in the lesson. Teachers' assistants are also on-call to explain any complex subject matter. At the very least, online courses should be researched and considered even if you are already enrolled in a "physical" school, because there are many other advantages to the virtual world. If you would rather learn in a traditional environment you could always take a few extra classes online so that you could graduate earlier. This also applies for students who are in a lower grade than they should be. If a student does not have enough credits to be in the appropriate grade level, they can be earned online. These are just some of the many advantages of online classes.
