A PROJECT REPORT ON ‘’Vodafone case study’’ COURSE NAME:-ORGANISATION AND ENVIRONMENT Planned Economies It is an economic system in which the state or government manages the economy. In this type of economy the state or government controls manufacturing and formulates all decisions about their use and about the distribution of income. The planners decide what should be produced and direct companies to produce these goods. In Planned economies production, distribution, and pricing decisions are made by the private owners of the factors of production based upon their own and their customers' interests. Market Economies A free market is a place where prices and quantities of goods and services are arranged completely by the mutual consent of sellers and buyers, determined generally by the supply and demand law of the price mechanism with no government interference in the regulation of costs, supply and demand, changing supply and demand or market prices. Mixed Economies In this economy uses attributes from both a command economy and a market economy. Resources are distributed by both the public AND private sector. The public sector, gaining resources through taxation or the owning of land, distribute resources to supply the 'needs' that people 'shouldn't have to pay for'. The state is also responsible for regulating and Maintaining the private sector, to ensure fair competition and the integrity of the market. Technological innovation will continue to be essential in the energy system for both economic and public policy reasons. The process of innovation is typically incremental, cumulative, and assimilative. Innovation may produce revolutionary outcomes through the accumulation of small steps, or because it introduces new performance characteristics that the market values. In some circumstances, public policy intervention to overcome obstacles to innovation may be justified to secure public benefits. Innovation fuels economic growth in the global economy. It creates an evergreen environment of new markets allowing us to reach new customers with existing products and to serve today's customers with new products and services. Technology: The Engine of Innovation In the last two decades, the information technology sector has been responsible for more economic activity, more wealth creation, more productivity and more worldwide economic growth than any other sector in the economy. Economies, consumers, businesses and governments reap the benefits of technological innovations. IT Competition Benefits... * Governments Fair and open competition in government procurement contracts would save governments worldwide billions of dollars each year on IT products. ∙• Economies Regional and global economies will benefit from a true environment of fair and open competition in the important technology sector. The information technology sector, led by the semiconductor industry, is the leading source of economic growth in the world economy. Businesses Fair and open competition in the market enables vendors and manufacturers to deliver a greater variety of competitive products to their customers around the world - and often results in lower prices and higher performance. * Consumers Consumers stand the most to gain from greater competition in the IT market. Fair and open competition means lower prices and greater choice. In today’s world it is hard to imagine the growth and modernization of various sectors in the economy without proper telecommunication services. Telecom is one of the fastest growing sectors in India with a growth of 21% and revenue of Rs 86,720 crore in the year 2006.With increase in competition between the major players like BSNL, Idea,Bharti etc. Indian Telecom System The government has to keep in mind that not only the telecommunication services have to be brought up to the international standards but also the cost has to be in tune with the economy on the whole. Cell phones are certainly popular. They are convenient and great for getting you out of jams. No more looking for a farmhouse in the middle of the night while broke down on the lonely, open Road. The cell phone is a modern marvel. Cell phones are mobile. You can be reached anywhere. Features like email ,text messaging allow you to remain in contact at all times. They increase your safety. They even make solar-powered cell phone chargers. Landlines Landlines are facing stiff competition from mobile telephones. The competition has forced the landline services to become more efficient. The landline network quality has improved and landline connections are now usually available on demand, even in high density urban areas. Landlines are often cheaper to talk on per minute than a cell phone. Two additional lines are cheaper than three to five cell phones. Landlines don't have batteries that are hard on the environment. Landline technology isn't really going anywhere. There is no need to upgrade a landline, unless you use a rotary phone. * ] INPUT Federal IT Market Forecast FY2004-FY2009 * [2] Source: Journal of Policy Modeling: "Information Technology and Productivity: Where are we now and where are we going," by Stephen D.
