There will be a difference in height, weight and bulid among the children in there age range, there can also be a big difference in the age at which children begin to develop secondary sexual characteristics. For girls, secondary sex characteristics such as breast development for the girls and boys growth of underarm, chest hair. Now there being to use simple, but complete sentences that average five to seven words, a 6-year-old child normally can follow a series of three commands in a row and by that age of 10 years, most children can follow five commands in a row. They are now awear of peer acceptance and it becomes more important during the school-age years as the children may take part in certain behaviors to be part of "the group," and at this age there friendship are mainly of the same sex. A 6-year-old should be able to focus on a task for at least 15 minutes and by age 9 a child should be able to focus attention for about an hour and It's now important for the child to learn how to deal with failure or frustration without losing self-esteem. 12-14 Years- They are still coming to terms with whom they are and are experiencing knew emotions such as moodiness and are often irritable, they are still developing their communication skills so they express themselves better by actions rather than by words. During early adolescence, the girls outperform boys and develop skills faster and there is a tendency to show off these skills and qualities to others in there social groups, The young person no longer looks up to his or hers own parents as they have more trust in the friendship grops outside there home life, there also becoming more awear of dressing like his or hers friends maybe even acting like them too and there friendships are mostly among the same sex. At this stage, the young person is still discovering their sexuality and may start to experiment with forbidden substances, such as cigarettes or alcohol. 14- 17 Years- The young person has a developed sense of self-identity and focuses on self-improvement, such as wearing make-up, dressing a surten way to fit with others they come concerened with there body and there outer appearance and are aware of the changes in there bodies due to puberty this may make them self-conscious of their bodies, as a result sometimes the young person might feel very inferior to others in there social groups. The young persons relationship with the parents becomes stressful as they may think thee parents are interfering which may make them emotionally withdraw from them and fel sad and lonely. Now they have a heightened sexual energy and may experience love for the first time they form relationships with the opposite sex and may enter or end relationships very quickly as they are now starting to discover his or hers own sexuality such as (homosexuality and heterosexuality). It's now when the young person chooses his or hers role models such as a movie star, singer or football player. 17- 19 Years- The sense of self-identity deepens and the young adult will develop a sense of self-esteem, there emotions and and interests deepen such as starting to taking his or her relationships with the opposite sex seriously and is now able to identifie his or hers sexual preferences and is able to express love and concern for others. The young adult is now able to make independent decisions and starts relying on him or herself rather than his or hers parents or friends and family, such as what path they want to play in life such as there job role or if they wish to go into further education or not and thinking about the future or the first time. Now his or hers communication skills are developed an the young adult is able to express him or herself well and with confidence, they lose the typical childhood stubbornness and is able to compromise on various issues in life. The difference between the seqence and rate of development is that the sequence means that there is a patteren and an order of development linked to there body and mobility growth to a childs development such as the sequence can include an order that's both positive and negative to the child. Milestones can also be sequence such as a child is breastfeed, weaned, full meals, 1st milk tooth appears, 1st milk tooth lost, last adult tooth appears, this is the sequence that every child goes through but the rate or age an individual child reaches each of these stages will differ, it could be that one loses their first tooth at 5 years old and another at 8 years old typically a first tooth is expected to come away at 6 maybe 7 years old because as always every child will develop at there own pace. The childs rate of development involves a time frame linked to the childs age and on their current development stage you can plan activities that explore seqential milestones that have yet to be reached. This also fit's into a childs development milestones and again show us that every childs is individual and where one baby may achieve walking unaided at 10 months another may accomplish it at 12 months another at 16 months. Rate and some aspects of sequence will be unique to an individual child, but both rate and sequence will be mapped against the birth to five development timeline,NHS parental guide and development matters of eyfs.
