Megan Foster Mrs. Nguyen Period 3 7 October 2009 Book Movie Essay The book Nights in Rodanthe is a love story but the objective the writer is trying to accomplish is that if you experience real love and love is lost it is better than never really experiencing love at all. The movie doesn’t really display an objective like the book does. The reason I think the book is better than the movie is, the movie doesn’t give the same strong connection between the characters like the book does, the book is also a lot more complex. Another reason I think the book is better than the movie is that the movie doesn’t include Adrienne’s struggle with taking care of her father financially. Overall I would rather watch a movie than read a book but after reading Nights in Rodanthe I have to say that I would read the book over watching the movie any day. In the movie the two main characters Adrienne and Paul experience a sweat calming life changing love . Their love is so perfect and so fairy tail like its almost unreal. In the movie the connection between Adrienne and Paul is wild and crazy, not the kind of love that sticks with you forever. Another difference is in the book Adrienne is a sad lonely women who doesn’t have much pride in herself, which would usually make a man find her unattractive but Paul couldn’t resist he wanted to love her and make her feel strong and special. In the movie Paul is rude to Adrienne and only starts to come around toward the end of the movie which doesn’t set a loving tone. Which is one reason I believe the book Nights in Rodanthe is better than the movie. The book Nights in Rodanthe is a lot more complex than the movie, it seemed as if the movie cut off half of he story which had some very important points. The movie starts off with Adrienne rushing her children off to their fathers house and Jack, Adrienne’s ex husband asks her if he can come back to her after he has cheated on her and remarried, now this is an important event and this does happen in the book also but before all off this the book sets the mood for the struggle between Adrienne and her eldest daughter Amanda. The reason I think this makes the book more complex than the movie is because in the movie it doesn’t explain like the book does how this entire story was meant to show Adrienne’s daughter Amanda ,who just lost her husband that she can move on and she can still live life. This shows how once you’ve really loved that can be enough. In the beginning of the movie Adrienne’s father is dead in the book he is in a nursing home. The book explains how since jack left Adrienne she can only pay for one more year of her fathers living expenses. She tells Paul about her problem one night in Rodanthe and he feels horrible knowing how her father was the only person she could really talk to and even after his stroke when all he could do was listen she would still talk. So when Paul goes off to Ecuador to see his son Adrienne and Paul wrote back and forth after Paul’s death his son mark came to Adrienne’s house and told her that Paul had paid for her father to live in his nursing home till his death. That was a very key point in the story and it wasn’t mentioned at all in the movie . That was one of the biggest parts of the book . The movie Nights in Rodanthe isn’t a bad movie it is a nice love story but it cannot compare to the book. The book has so much more story and experience that is meant to be seen than the movie. The book has a strong character connection unlike the movie it is so much more complex than the movie. The Fact that the movie doesn’t show the struggle with Adrienne’s father and how Paul saved her from a lot of pain is a strong part to the story. The movie may have had sound effects and been exciting but it wasn’t as compassionate and strong like the book. This is why I think the book Nights in Rodanthe is better than the movie.
