Assignment Number 1
Nature and nurture compare and contrast between each other. Today I am going to explain why these two subjects are big part of our lives, how they influence us to do the things we do today, the differences between one another and many more.
Many people wonder if experience is just there from what we learn in life or if we are born with them. There are always two questions to a subject we have been wondering for years. How come one of the twins like football and the other twin hates that sport' Sometimes we are born with a different type of attitude from one of our siblings. We would either get it from one of our parents or from one of our peers we have been hanging out with from the outside world. If you have a nasty attitude towards your parents or other people, everyone will wonder which parent they got it from. It is not only the parents, it is also from who the young child is hanging around with and what they are learning from the peer. Many people wonder why we behave the way we do and why we behave differently compared to our family members. It is what they call nature and nurture. Nature is a trait of what we are with and what is passed down genetically. Nature gives us our eye and hair color, what we like to eat, how our smile looks and shape of our body. Nurture is personal experience. We aren’t born with a blank personality, we learn from either our parents or peers. It is the causes of our behaviors and characteristics. Genes may give us a little boost on how our personality starts, but from the environment from the outside world has the power to make us the exact opposite.
Before psychology class, I have also been wondering for awhile why me and some of my siblings are different from one another. I felt at first it is because of who we have been hanging out with or if we are born with it. My older sister and brother are exactly the same but my younger sister and I are the complete opposite from what they are like. From reading and learning on through the chapters, I realized that I was right. I put myself in the position and wondered why we are the way we are. My older siblings love to go out, but me and my sister love to stay inside and just hang out. I realized that once they hang out together more they become the same people. If me and my sister hang around each other we feel comfortable because we are the same and love to do the same stuff, but if I hang around my brother it would be awkward because our interests are different compared to each other. My dad and brother have the same personality. My older brother hung around my dad since he was born. My mom and I and even all my sisters have the same personality. We are loud and laugh over the weirdest things and yet my brother and dad get very annoyed of us. One last thing I have noticed is that my older sister is not a people person and wants to work away from but for myself, I love to help people. She works in a restaurant and sometimes gets crabby attitudes from costumers for no reason which makes her in a bad mood and gives her that crabby attitude as well. She doesn’t want to be near negativity from people so she would like to work independently. For myself I love to help people with their needs because if you place yourself and show empathy in the situation, you would like to be helped as well.
There are many differences between nature and nurture. Nature is what we are born with and nurture is life experience from the environment and the outside world we live in. Nature is something lucky we receive in life. We are given a gift from Mother Nature and she is what gives us our looks, our eye color, the shape of our nose, the color of our hair and the shape of our body. We may get some genetic traits of our personality from our parents because they are the very first people we see and are around in life. Also genetics may be skipped from a generation. You may wonder why does my daughter have curly hair and yet my husband and I have straight hair' Sometimes you get it from one of your relatives back in the day before you were born like your husband’s great grandfather. One other thing is we may be a sweet innocent child when we grow up but once we get older, sometimes our attitudes aren’t so sweet. We learn from what is going on in the outside world. You wonder why one sibling is always depressed and the other sibling is always happy. It all just depends on what is going on around you.
Criminal thinking could be found through genetics or what you learn around one’s self. It may be from illnesses you are born with or who you are learning this criminal background from. Through genetics someone may have an illness in the family that is from the past generation. The person may get it from their great grandfather who was also psychologically ill and had the same traits as themselves or they may have learned the criminal background through friends from steeling and they had the interest in having a criminal mind from that experience. From nurture experience in the outside world, addiction could also be an example of how a person could become a criminal. Usually drugs could open up the criminal mind once the person is addicted. Receiving drugs from a friend the person may like it and would want more and more and more to the point where they are addicted. Sometimes people would do anything just to get the drug. They will steal money from a random person or rob a bank just to get money to buy the drug. Another example for criminal thinking is family. When growing up in a house hold filled with family with a criminal background may rub onto you. Steeling, doing drugs and killing may give a child a thought in mind that it is okay to do thoughs types of actions. By not disciplining children for an inappropriate action may give them the thought that they could get away with it.
Nature and Nurture may be different in some cases, but the two subjects are a good combination of what is occurring in everyone’s lives.
