Foundations of Mythology HUM/105- World Mythology University of Phoenix, Augusta Campus How is the word myth used popularly' Mythology can be the studies of different cultures, stories, traditions are even beliefs that one might have. Each individual and culture has there on myth on life. In many sense myth pertains to different legends that’s passed down from generation to generation. Myth brings me back to different ancient stories with gods and goddess ruled different cultures. Every day we communicate with different cultures. Mythology in academic terms can be used in a variety of settings. Myth is a true fact and over time has been changed through people’s different views; this is the definition I believe the meaning of myth is in my own words. Why do myths from different cultures around the world address such similar or universal themes' Think about how myths explain the unknown and the tribulations of mankind. We could go back as far to B.C. A.D. to our present time, we all believe in a higher power in which, we all believe where we as humans came from and became human beings, all of the different cultures believe in a different name, but all having the same ways of the main purpose such as; December 25, death and 3 days later resurrection There are many different Myths and many are from different cultures they all seem to address the same themes but in different ways because in the end we are all trying to explain the same thing. What is the relationship between belief, knowledge, mythology, and religion' Where do mythology and religion intersect' Where do they diverge' Think about the function of myth and religion in helping human beings cope with change, suffering, loss, and death. Religion and mythology differ, but have overlapping aspects. Both terms refer to systems of concepts that are of high importance. Generally, mythology is considered one component or aspect of religion. Mythology is simply any culture's way of explaining the world. That can be a body of stories, poems, sacred texts, The Origin of Species, etc. Many cultures had a completely oral tradition that was no less vast and intricate than other cultures' written words. Mythology informs us where we came from and who we are. Religion is the rituals, creeds, etc., by which we approach the divine. You can have a mythology and not necessarily have a religion. But you absolutely cannot have a religion without a mythology. How would you defend mythology’s relevance in contemporary culture' Think about familial and cultural traditions. Also, consider how mythology is used in the arts and in advertising to typify human experience. When dealing with myth and mythology its play a role in many people life and others it does not. Many people were raised as a child different coming up and even your culture might expect for the same thing but we change as we grow and myths change as well. Mythology is the body of myths and legends belonging to the ancient Greeks, concerning their gods and heroes, the nature of the world, and the origins and significance of their own cult and ritual practices. Mythology is embodied, explicitly, in a large collection of narratives, and implicitly in Greek representational arts, such as vase paintings and votive gifts. Mythology attempts to explain the origins of the world, and details the lives and adventures of a wide variety of gods, goddess, heroes, heroines, and mythological creatures.
