My Son’s Birth During the winter of 2008, I was in the biggest shock of my life. I found out I was pregnant with my first child. It was a scary, joyful, happy ride; it was the greatest blessing ever. When I found out I was expecting, it was a scary feeling. I recall I had thoughts I was pregnant because my period was late. I had told my boyfriend Carlos and he suggested we take a pregnancy test. I went to Target to buy the test, then face it was positive. My boyfriend and I were extremely scared. So many thoughts went through our heads. We thought that we should be one hundred percent sure so we went to the doctor’s office. We were scared, stressed and anxious. The nurse called me in for a urine test and a few minutes later she told me I was pregnant. I started crying, and my boyfriend was stressing. We got ourselves together and made a plan to tell our parents. My boyfriend and I were scared. We were scared financially because we did not make the greatest money we were stressed and panicked. Little by little we made plans to move out and get our own place. We had to start from the bottom up but we had to be calm and not stress or panic too much because it wasn’t going to get us anywhere. My body started changing rapidly. I started gaining weight in my hips and I started throwing up constantly the whole day. I couldn’t eat anything sugary because my feet would get swollen and I would feel dizzy for some hours. I also started getting headaches, it was a horrible pain. The baby did not like any flavored drinks so I could only drink water. It helped me drinking only water and eating healthy food because I did not get extremely fat and the baby was healthy. Our parents’ reactions were pretty weird. My boyfriends’ mom was happy but worried. She was happy because her first grandchild was on the way. She was scared because we were young and not financially set. My mom on the other hand was upset, disappointed and angry at both of us. She wanted me to wait until I was older and more mature; she wanted me to have a career and be successful. Our dad’s were neutral, mostly happy. They really had nothing to say other than “congratulations” and “Be ready for the ride; it’s time to grow up”. Soon after a couple of months went by, we found out that it was a boy. We heard his heart beat and we saw his ultra sound. We were very happy. We soon told our families and friends and they were happy for us as well. We then began to look for clothes and furniture for our new baby boy. It was very stressful because we weren’t financially well off. Clothes were confusing, because we didn’t know too much about them. With help from our moms, we got through it and bought a beautiful crib, changing table, swing and stroller with baby seat. The months went by quickly and the day finally came. I had a doctor’s appointment in the morning. My doctor, Dr. Lee, told me I had to be induced because if I waited too long the bay might be more difficult to deliver. I went to the hospital and was in labor in 27 hours. They were stressful and scary because I could hear the other women screaming. I wasn’t in that much pain because of the epidural. I delivered my baby boy, Carlos, by way of a c-section. I could not deliver him vaginally because he was turned and would not turn to a correct position. My baby was finally born. At 11:15 A.M. I saw him and it was the happiest day ever. He was so cute and tiny; I couldn’t believe it. He was finally here in my arms. My boyfriend and I became so happy with our bundle of joy. After the birth of my son Carlos, I became a happier, more responsible person. I saw that he made me a much better person attitude wise and he made me want to be a great example. I always told myself my children were going to have a well-educated mother with a college degree and because of him, I matured enough to take action and go back to school.
