“ THE EFFECTS OF MUSIC TO CHILDREN ” Firstly, music excitement can encourage the intelligence and creativity of the children which lead them to perform well in school. When children exposed to music, it will stimulate their brain and help to improve neuron connection yet, this will lead them to be smarter in the area of math. Teenager does not have really strong relation as the children in music achievement in mathematics and reading. (Southgate & Roscigno, 2009 as cited in Higgs, 2011) . The creativity of the children relate to the emotion of the children because when they listening to the music they will feel calm and the calmness will help them to be more creative and focus. According to Shcellenberg, Takayuki, Hunter and Sachiko (2007) hearing to common song and singing them will help in increasing creativity between the children. Moreover, children will increase their intelligence when listen to different types and genres of music as it will help them to learn the foreign languages. It happens when children listen to music and their parents will try to explain about the meaning of the lyrics to them. Kids can be wiser when listening to music (Ashikin,2011). After that, music encouraged the children to be brilliant in many skills, thus music have the same necessary as the other intelligence. “Music intelligence is equal in importance to logical such as mathematical intelligence, linguistic intelligence, spatial intelligence then for bodily such as kinaesthetic intelligence, interpersonal intelligence, and intrapersonal intelligence.” (Gardner , 1983 as cited in Levinowit, 1983 ). In short, music assist to stimulate the brain to make children smarter in various intelligence such as, mathematics, writing, reading, learning foreign languages and other else and then make it equally necessary as the other intelligence. In addition, the music can affect the children’s emotion, therefore, music can help in children’s therapy. This is because, children is sensitive to the messages that specified in the music and the rhythm of the music. The lyrics of the music and the rhythm would affect them because when a happy music is played they will show happy expression such as, smiling, laughing or dancing according to the rhythm. From the sung music a four years old kids had showed various temperamental such as cheerful, sorrow, mad and frightened (Dolgin and Andelson, 1990 as cited in Nawrot,2003). Music can also be the therapy to reduce tension and illness for children because when suitable music that use in therapy will make the children relax and calm. Therefore, the result of music therapy might be better than other therapy. Arabin (2002) found that music therapeutically been use to trim the strain and illness throughout the adulthood and childhood, old aged people with sickness whose verbal communication is limited and the children who have the problem in growth development. Other than that, children will feel sad, happy, exited and eager regarding to the types and genres of the music. Meaning of music has domination and exceed the words (Carlton, 2000 as cited in Parlakian & Lerner,2010) Finally, when interactive music is played and then children making movement this will enhance children’s muscle and help them in growth development. Playing music for them will be the other way to make them grow faster because when they dance it is like an exercise for them. “The Wheels on the Bus” (among many others) are perfect examples of ways music can support the development of small muscles in children’s hands and fingers—the same muscles they will use for writing and drawing when they are older” (Parlakian & Lerner, 2010). Moreover, children with development delay will be able to enhance their growth. Arabin (2002), researched on children with slowness development, music therapy increase their growth compared to control group without music therapy. The children were really attractive with something different and joyful. When they listen to music, it will make the children try to make effort to follow it or try to find it. “ The main life skill as walking and talking was producing by music. ” ( Peery and Peery, 1987). Music give many effects on children mentally, physically and emotion. Music stimulate their brain to be smarter and had been use as therapy for children to heal their pain and illness. Music are also affect to their physical when they listen to music the children will making movement and this help to build their muscle and finally it will tribute to their growth development.
