Moon Over Buffalo As one of the actors in the play “Moon Over Buffalo” I have had the privilege of seeing the play three times, however I was not able to see the whole thing so my responses are limited too the parts that I experienced in the play. I believe that I will be able to critique the parts I was in. This has been my first time performing in a play and even so I can tell which parts in the play that was in needed more work and which ones were pretty good, whether it be because of me or because of another actor. At the same time if an actor was too mess up, or over act a certain part, it would mess up the scene. I noticed that in this play the actors had relied on each other in most of the scenes. There would be action on part of the stage while there is an actor who is in the background waiting to join in the action but while he/she is waiting on the sideline onstage they perform small things that show that they are still in the scene but they don’t do too much that they take away the attention from the main focus. For the most part the scenes were pretty believable. The parts that could have used a little bit of more work were in certain punch lines that were meant for the audience too laugh. If there was a joke there were times when I would smirk along with the actor Perez 2 or actress that was with me. This could have been taken care of with some type of training to block the third circle. However it was amazing how those parts weren’t too noticeable too the audience and the actors were able too just play it off and continue with their lines as if they didn’t know they just said a punch line that made a roomful of people. However the most believable scenes came from when there was more movement. There was a look of confusion, anger, and fear all in one dramatic scene just thrown at the audience. One of my favorite scenes is the part when Howard, me, barges through the door dressed like General Patton. Howard’s emotions switch from exited, because he finally got to George Hay, Tucker, to confused in the part when George starts crying, to scared when Paul and George chase him all over the room. Which even the chase scene to me felt really believable. The first dodge when Paul reached for Howard felt so real. There was so much energy behind that burst to safety. Unfortunately for Howard he got caught. In that same scene there was also a lot of teamwork. Even though the actor knew what was coming the character had to expect the unexpected. Howard’s actor knew what path to run in order to avoid getting caught by the character playing Paul. However Howard’s actor had too rely on the actor playing Paul to be in the right place for the part when he got caught. Paul’s actor knew where too catch Howard and relied on Howard’s actor to run to the place where he would get caught. If any of the two actors would have Perez 3 forgotten their spot they would have had to rely on each other and come up with a way to improvise a second catch. Both the actors here did a good job in displaying themselves as they should have been displayed. The lines were set in the right place and it actually seemed like it was real. At the same time there was a scene in the beginning that seemed a little fake. The scene with Roz and Howard on the first day was a little off. I believe that the first day I got in front of all those people too perform I was a little nervous and really exited. I noticed that when I (Howard) talked with Roz starting on the lines when I was telling her how I was like her parents, being in show business, that would start my lines a little early. Almost as if I was blurting my lines out one second before she said her lines. This made it seem not too believable because in doing so makes it seem like the actor is just saying the lines too himself. Almost as if I wasn’t listening to Roz. However, that was the only day that it happened. Overall it was a really good performance. A few kinks every here and there but most of them go unnoticed to everyone who doesn’t have training in catching these kinds of things. In each of the three days that this play was performed there was a noticeable different audience. Each audience would laugh at different parts. Small errors were covered easily in the huge action scenes. The errors that were brought up in the dialogue parts were hardly noticeable. However, there will always be something that can be made better, nothing is perfect, and this play shows that things can go much worse at times.
