Tambra Hill Gen 200 February 23, 2010 Johnny McLoud-Hoover, MPA The Minority Initiatives Committee was established in 1969, bythe American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Council, in response to the lack of minorities interested or employed in the accounting profession. The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Minority Initiatives Committee’s resolution is to encourage minority men and women to attend college and to seek a degree in accounting. Their goal is to provide the educational opportunities and to prepare students to enter the accounting profession. In addition, their charter is to encourage employers to hire minority men and women to integrate the accounting profession in deed beyond the ideal (Minority Initiatives Committee, 2006-2010). By using the above available tools and resources’, potential accountants can explore the various types of accounting (e.g., tax, corporate). They can make informed decisions regarding salary, job location, and affiliations. The more professional knowledge they acquire, the more successful they would be in their careers. Through the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Minority Initiatives Committee aperson has no legitimate reason to be unsuccessful as a Certified Public Accountant. They have career planning and development, scholarships to fellowships, mentors, and tutors for minority men and women. Their mission is to provide members with the resources, information, and leadership that enable them to provide valuable services in the highest professional manner (AICPA Mission, 2009). The Minority Initiatives Committee is committed to encouraging success, advancement, and retention of men and women of color in the accounting profession. References AICPA Diversity Statement.
