A military base has many important aspects to share with the surrounding communities near them. Having dealt with the military life style in excess of fifteen years I have seen many different aspects of the military and the communities it serves. Living near a military installation, it is readily identifiable the immense impact the base has on the adjoining areas. This impact can be seen in the form of the economic stability of the given communities that serve as the market base for the service members working and living within the installation. The new addition to the nearby cities brings many people from all sorts of walks of life, people that bring with them new ideas and moral values. With the added population stress will be added to the resources reserved for the current members of the community causing a need for improved facilities throughout the neighboring areas. The benefits of a military base far outweigh the small burdens that come with it; the social and economic gains will transform the community for the better. The addition of a new military installation brings with it an enormous amount of added resources for economic growth for all the nearby cities. This economic boom can be seen both directly and indirectly. The direct form in more identifiable through the many work projects needed to be completed. These types of projects go well in advance to the new facilities being able to sustain a work force and multiple family communities. This in turn employs a sustainable work force that is needed for a very long time. Lots of the labor force needed will come form the surrounding community. The remaining body of workers that come to the job site will require housing and all the living commodities that come with settling into a place. This will indirectly affect the local shop owners and business workers. With the added demand to provide a service or goods to the arriving work force and their families, the local people start to see better work hours and an improved availability to make and spend money for their families. The influx of the market base is nothing in comparison to the second wave of added demand brought once the base is operational and the service members begin to move in. As an added bonus the demand is not seasonal, with the military families coming and going there is a strong market base for household goods for as long as the base remains in operation. The additional possibility to support and raise a family with the booming community brings in a culturally diverse work force. With diversity a shift in moral values can begin to take shape. Communities where more tolerance for one another is experienced and the misconceptions for one another can be explored and disproven in a real time setting. The military and civilian populations begin to mesh into the community and a new population group will begin to surface. The changes will bleed into all aspects of the given society. Civilian workers that are hired to carryout the many non-military jobs that are required for the maintenance and upkeep of the base will interact with the military men and women of the base. Within the day to day of interaction minor changes occur over time that have an impact on all participating parties. The thought process and moral values change through life experience and are carried over to our family members who seek our guidance. This in turn makes the base part of the community and a necessity for the proper functioning of the local area it shares. As the population grows so must the facilities that support the people within its society. With the sudden rush of people the stress imposed on the town or city’s infrastructure will be too much to handle. The need for improved and larger facilities will surface; this in turn will make for added economic growth and job stability. The quality of life will improve for all as new town projects begin to take shape, added parks and centers for recreation will begin to spring up. A demand for improved public transportation and public walkways will add to the new appeal to the city. Improved police patrolling and emergency response will be experienced for all the citizens of the flourishing community. The incorporation of a military installation within a community has endless opportunity for improvement. From improved financial status of its members to the improved social understanding of the world we live in. The addition of a military base to a community is an opportunity that can not be passed up, and once it has become part of the community, it must be protected at all cost. I felt as if the wording flowed a bit easier this writing assignment. I still believe I may have missed the mark on this assignment however. I really am beginning to think I may not ever get my mental state to change from the spoken format. Writing in this format is difficult because I feel it is too rigid and does not allow for self expression. The struggle continues.
