Kudler Fine Food Values
Business ethics (also known as corporate ethics) is a form of applied ethics that examines ethical principles and moral or ethical problems that arise in a business environment. It applies to all aspects of business conduct and is relevant to the conduct of individuals and business organizations as a whole. Applied ethics is a field of ethics that deals with ethical questions in many fields such as medical, technical, legal and business ethics.
The Williams Ethics Awareness Inventory self Assessment provides your own characteristics about ethics towards the society or organization. Decision making is the vast subject & affects the future of society. Making a decision based on the moral values is the key point in an organization.
The Williams Institute Ethics Awareness Inventory Assessment determines what my core beliefs in my ethical decisions are. According to Williams Ethic Awareness Inventory I tend to base my ethical perspective on the results or consequences of my actions. I believe that conduct should be directed towards promoting the greatest good for the greatest number of persons. In judging wheather individual’s actions are ethical, I look for concrete evidence. It is not enough for individual to “talk the talk”, results are needed to indicate that she/he is “walking the walk”. It showed that my beliefs are closely aligned with “Results”, and least closely aligned with “Equity”. After looking at my results, I would like to discuss how my values affect my performance, if were manager at Kudler Fine Foods.
Kudler History,
Passionate about gourmet cooking and frustrated at having to travel all over town to gather the ingredients for one simple meal, Kathy Kudler decided to open her own gourmet food shop. Her vision was to create one store that would stock a wide selection of the freshest ingredients as well as all of the tools a gourmet cook could ever want. Kathy was confident that combining the convenience of one-stop shopping of gourmet organic food with reasonable prices would be a recipe for success. Kathy's vision became a reality in 1998 with the opening of the La Jolla store. Her concept was an immediate success and in two years Kudler's expanded with the opening of the Del Mar location. Our latest store opened in Encinitas in 2003 and we are already looking for just the right spot for another shop! Kudler Fine Foods is committed to providing our customers with the finest selection of the very best foods and wines so that your culinary visions can come true.
Kudler Fine Foods has experienced significant growth and is now focused on expanding the services, improving the efficiency of its operations and increasing the consumer purchase cycle as a means to increasing the loyalty and profitability of its consumers.
As far as my ethical perspective, I am characterized as an individual “that believe that ethics relying to theon the ability of individuals to make sound moral judgments.” Thoughit is not “enough to comply with some preset standards or principles of right and wrong to find the solution to a complex ethical dilemma” (Williams Institute for Ethics and Management). I also agree with the EAI assessment when it states that I “value such qualities as honesty, wisdom, and integrity” (Williams Institute for Ethics and Management). I believe that these essential qualities are necessary in order for a business professional to adhere to high moral standards depending on the current & future business issues. Kathy Kudler, owners of Kudler Fine Foods, understood the trials and tribulations associated with hard work and made it her mission to provide quality specialty products to the public with a high degree of personal ethics.
After reviewing at the Strategic Plan of Kudler Fine Foods, there were some references in the plan to determine Kathy Kudler’s ethical perspective and ethical style which are aligned with my ethical style. The ethical policy such as, “Those items that are still in “good” condition are donated to local homeless shelters and food kitchens” and “We donate day-out bakery products to local charities who feed the homeless.”She encourages the clerks to be friendly and helpful to the customers and ask if they found everything they were looking for. If several customers request the same item, Kudler orders that item for the shelves or will even offer to special order it for the customer.”
If I were managing Kudler Fine Foods instead of Kathy Kudler, there would not be many changes for Kudler Fine Foods, at least not from an ethical perspective and ethical style goes, Kudler believe customer service is most important and helping the people in the community is also important. Just reading Kudler Fine Foods mission statement you can see how important customers are to Kudler is. “Kudler Fine Foods is committed to providing our customers with the finest selection of the very best foods and wines so that your culinary visions can come true.” (University of Phoenix, 2003, p. 3) I think that statement tells more about how Kathy Kudler feels about her customers and her company.
As far as profitability is concern I have some different views from Kudler’s management. The store hours are Monday to Saturday 10.00 AM to 6.00 PM and Sunday 11.00 AM to 4.00 PM, I would change the hours so that people can came to store early & late, considering the habits of early & late cooking. As people prefer to buy a fresh food for their daily cooking on every day, especially on Sunday, it will be a good decision to have more opening hours as a customer service. If you can manage a company well, and you run it with honesty, wisdom, and integrity, the people you work with and the customers you have in your store, will see the same qualities in you and your company.
