Personal Values Ethics involve identifying, differentiating, and defending concepts of right and wrong, and what values humanity retains from ethical growth and development. Reading through the Ethics Awareness Inventory helped me to gain insights into ethical perspective of decision making. I was also able to understand the three components of Ethical decision namely: Awareness, Articulation and Application. The Williams Institute Ethics Awareness Inventory Every day people make decisions. People face situations where they must make what they believe is the “right” decision. However, when it comes to ethical faced with ethical dilemmas, people believe that there are “right” and “wrong” choices. Coincidently, people make different choices in accordance with their personal ethical values. The William Group for Ethics and Management developed an exercise, called Ethics Awareness Inventory, which analyzes responses to a set of questions, and values underlying the belief system and how they reflect personal ethical perspective and style. I took the Williams Ethic Awareness Inventory and according to it I tend to base my ethical perspective on the results or consequences of my actions. I believe that conduct should be directed toward promoting the greatest good for the greatest number of persons. In judging whether an individual’s actions are ethical I look for concrete evidence. My approach to ethics will likely focus on what could be done to improve the well being of the greatest number of persons. According to the Williams Ethic Inventory one approach would be to develop rules of ethical conduct for actions. They learn ethics based on the success in their actions and omit those that are not successful. As a reflection of the Williams Institute Ethics awareness inventory self assessment, my ethical profile was most closely aligned with (R) results. This means that I value overall good for society as a whole. Every decision I make is made by evaluating the options and looking into the future to see how the outcome of the decision may affect others and me within my circle of influence. Ethical Values of Kudler Fine Food In my view, the Kudler Fine Foods (KFF) ethical philosophy is mostly based on the “results or consequences” of its actions “It is not enough for an individual to “talk the talk.”. The proof of this approach is reflected in KFF’s Compensation Philosophy. “Our philosophy is that highly satisfied employees create highly satisfied customers, so we intend to provide a total reward system that is above the market. However, we also believe that pay should be linked to performance, so our base pay opportunities will be indexed to the market median in each of the markets we serve. We will offer incentive plans to those who perform well to increase their overall compensation” (KFF’s Compensation Philosophy, 2003). Being results oriented also means that the company “believes that conduct should be directed toward promoting the greatest good to the greatest number of persons… Therefore, its approach to ethics is likely to focus on what could be done to improve the wellbeing of the greatest number of persons” (WIEM, 2006). This approach is best exemplified in KFF’s Strategic Plan (2003) to our products. Food is rotated from the shelves on an ongoing basis. Those items that are still in “good” condition are donated to local homeless shelters and food kitchens.” However, being overly result oriented is not without repercussions. Results oriented managers tend to focus on the immediate scope of the problem ignoring the far-reaching impacts of the solution. Results oriented companies also tend to ignore References University of Phoenix. (2009). Kudler 2003 Strategic Plan.
