Melanie A true best friend is something that not every single person is to fortunate to obtain. A best friend is a companion who stays by your side through the best of times and the worst of times. It is that person who you can be yourself completely with. They say you can’t choose your family but you chose your friends for a reason. I have had one influence in my life that I have always kept by my side. It is a quote from my grandfather, “Sam, choose your friends wisely, choose people who bring the best out in you.” In my childhood I went through many different “best friends”. I never felt like I could really be a hundred percent myself with those people. I’ve always heard of a lot of people finding their true best friends after all the games of high school. I’ve always wondered when will I meet that one person who I’ve been looking for' Then I met Melanie. I remember it like it was yesterday. Fresh out of Covina High School, and I was eighteen years old. It was my first day of college. A bunch of new things entering my life like college and my first job. I was wandering the campus aimlessly looking for the little café I would be starting to work at. As I walked awkwardly too the front counter I saw a girl standing there. I had my thoughts about her for I did not know who she was. Us as people always seem to have our opinions when first meeting someone new. She introduced herself as Melanie with a big smile attached to it. She was the person who was going to train me and I would be working with her every day. From the moment we first started talking we couldn’t stop. I felt this comfort level with a complete stranger. We talked on and on until our shift ended. Suddenly, I couldn’t wait to go back into work and see my new friend. Every day we had a new story to tell each other and it was bliss. I had a new companion and I hoped it would last unlike all of my other “friends”. Melanie and I are so much alike in a sense where our interests in a lot of things are very similar. Such as art, music, humor, style, and etc. Personally, I have a very goofy sense of humor. Melanie, is the exact same in a sense where we could spend hours doing absolutely and be laughing he entire time. She knows what I’m thinking just by looking at my face. Another positive thing I gained from my best friend is being introduced to a whole new group of people who I am proud to call my little “family”. We all spend every single day together and never get tired of each other. My best friend brings out the best in me and always has my best interest at heart. She is real with me and lets me know what I’m acting foolish or compliment me when I need to lift my spirits. There is one element in our friend ship in which I cherish the most. That is the fact that Melanie and I both have individually what the other lacks. She can be very strong and tough. She is very responsible and has her head on straight. I am very naïve and I want to see the good in everyone to where I trust too easily. I also get so overwhelmed with things I tend to give up. WE balance each other out completely. Whenever I’m feeling low or negative Melanie tells me how things are in a real aspect. She does not sugar coat things or baby me. And that has helped me as a person. I believe the best quality in a person is someone who will tell you what you need to know as opposed to what you want to hear. And I have that in my best friend. Me best friend is the most kind hearted person I have ever met. I am so lucky to have someone by my side. Our friendship is only three years strong, but it’s the strongest thing in my life. She has made such a huge impact on my life. I can safely say I have changed for the best just by being around this person. I greatly appreciate every day of my life that has Melanie in it. I hope every person has the opportunity to meet their “Melanie”. I can proudly say I took my grandfather’s advice, and it saved me.
