PROPOSAL FOR UDOM STUDENTS DAY PREPARED BY: MARKETING SOCIETY OF UDOM EXECUTIVE SUMMARY UDOM students’ day is a social academic event designed by The University of Dodoma Students Organization (UDOSO) objecting at involving all students to share knowledge in overcoming challenges and problems facing Tanzania community. Key participants in this event are students of The University of Dodoma through their social-academic associations and religious associations. The event is a whole day event which will include open forum and Sports & Games and expected to be attended by at least 15,000 students out of 23,000 UDOM students. Marketing Society will participate in this event, where its topic will be entrepreneurship. Marketing society thought this is a big opportunity for AIRTEL to participate in order to create brand awareness and making sales on the event ground. Proposed AIRTEL participation in this event includes borrowing gazebos to participating associations, T-shirts for Members of Marketing society, and lastly by sponsoring the BASH on the event day. The bash is relevant on the event day as it will serve two purposes; one being the accomplishment of field marketing training to marketing society where the second phase which was remaining include practical selling of AIRTEL products (which will be done by members of marketing society on the event) and the BASH and the second purpose is to refresh peoples mind after the whole day event of UDOM students day. On the bash, the criteria to enter will be possessing AIRTEL line. Despite of the 2000 starter packs, modems, phones and vouchers sales you will make, Your Company participating in this event will give a mileage in branding AIRTEL and on the other hand it fulfills your social responsibilities. Either, this proposal is open to change according to sponsors need and resources EVENT DESCRIPTION UDOM students’ day is a socio-academic event which has been prepared by University of Dodoma Students Organization (UDOSO) due to the need and the importance of students’ involvement in different social affairs in order to insure proper moral. The event aims at sharing knowledge in overcoming the challenges and problems facing the society. Challenges expected to be discussed includes, HIV/AIDS and Malaria, drug abuse, corruption, gender issues, environmental pollution, entrepreneurship, human rights and ethics and culture. PARTICIPANTS This event targets all students of university of Dodoma. But key participants of the events will be all religious groups and UDOM students associations (like Marketing Society of UDOM) through representatives. ATTENDANTS This event is expected to be attended by; • UDOM students • UDOM administration • UDOM staff (lecturers ) • Invited guests • Press EVENT PLAN • Date The event is planned to be held on 4th December, 2010. • Venue The event is planned to be held in the open ground at UDOM campus to allow easy accessibility by the target. • Activities The event being socio-academic, the activities involved will be open forum, sports and games, presentations, art works and many interesting staffs. o Open forum On the event ground, there will be an open forum where chief guest and associations will present what they prepared for the mass then attendants will contribute. Presentations will be both formal and art o Sports and games To make the event interesting, different sports and games will be involved. Sports like chasing chicken, football matches and many others. o Bash The bash is expected to be held in UDOM campus. This bash expects to involve many events such as modeling, disco, artists’ stage performance and dancing competition. Artists in this event are expected to include both local artists (from UDOM) and superstars. o Associations participation Before the event, every association will choose a topic to work on, where on the event day; each association will present its findings on their topic. RELEVANCE OF THE EVENT The event is relevant to all participants and the expected attendants, though the relevance of the event differ from one group to another as follows; • UDOSO This is the first event in UDOM to be host by UDOSO. After students losing confidence on UDOSO, this event was designed so as to recover the lost hope and confidence of UDOM students to their government. With this importance, UDOSO planned to use most resources in its proposal to make this event hot ever in the history of higher learning education in Tanzania. • UDOM ADMINISTRATION UDOM administration is curious to know how and what its students is capable of. Since this is the first big event in the history of UDOM, the administration has put most of its attention in this event as it promised to support the event in the best it can. This event is expected to involve university staff too. • STUDENTS ASSOCIATIONS This event is an opportunity to all students’ organizations both religious and non religious to show how best they can perform. • MARKETING SOCIETY OF UDOM To Marketing Society of UDOM this event means a lot. Marketing society takes the event as an opportunity for branding, selling, and advertising and proves our best. • UDOM STUDENTS UDOM students are expected to show up to see what after so long time what their government has prepared for them. BENEFITS TO AIRTEL AIRTEL as a new brand in the market, this is a very big opportunity. The event ground is expected to be visited by at least 10,000 people out of more than 23,000 UDOM students. Investing in this event seems to be a big opportunity in, o Branding AIRTEL can use different branding materials on the event ground to make people aware of the new brand. Also AIRTEL can use members of marketing society for further branding. o Selling As the accomplishment of field marketing practical phase, members of marketing society will be directly selling starter packs. In such a big population, AIRTEL can sell at least 1000 starter packs. And in the BASH entrance qualifications can be possessing AIRTEL starter pack which will increase sales. o Training new freelancers Marketing society will present entrepreneurship in the form of freelancers’ scheme in the open forum. Also marketing society will demonstrate how freelancers work and gain in the marketing society’s gazebo. o Advertising Also the event can be used to advertise AIRTEL products and services such as Zap and other. o Social responsibility But on the other hand AIRTELs participation in this is the fulfillment of social responsibilities which will create positive image and friendly positioning to UDOM students and other attendants. MARKETING SOCIETY’S PARTICIPATION Marketing society has planned to full invest and participate in the event in a creative way. Marketing society has also planned to dominate the event as if they host the event. TOPIC Marketing society chosen to present about ENTREPRENEURSHIP. Basing on the skills, inspirations and experience we obtained from AIRTEL FREELANCERS scheme, we are sure we can do better in this topic. LOCATION IN THE EVENT GROUND On the event ground marketing society is doing the best to get a space near the entrance to make sure that everyone enter the ground, has an opportunity to visit Marketing society. Marketing society planned to have two gazebos on the ground of which one will deal with the entrepreneurial (AIRTEL FREELANCERS SCHEME) advice service which is our topic to present and the other gazebo will provide information about marketing society of UDOM and advertisements. To make our site interesting and attract more people, different artistic works like comedies, graphics and music is expected. Also we expect to offer prizes to our visitors. We also expect to offer flyers which tell more about marketing society and our sponsor. ACTION PLAN To stand out of the crowd, marketing society needs enough preparation within a limited time. With the time limit, marketing society decided to link the practical part of FIELD MARKETING TRAINING and UDOM STUDENTS DAY. • FIELD MARKETING TRAINING The remaining part of this training is a practical selling, which was planned to start as soon as we open the university. In the practical selling, our target customers were to buy starter packs and recharge them to get a coupon to enter to the bash. • UDOM STUDENTS DAY This will be a socio-academic day where after the whole day movements in the event ground, people need to refresh at the evening. Due to the nature of the university students, bash is the best refreshment to most of them. • WELCOMING FIRST YEAR Since it is the beginning of the new academic year 2010-2011 with about 5000 first year students and no social event was held welcome them, then it is important to host a welcome first year bash. RELEVANCE OF THE BASH ON 4TH DECEMBER 2010 With the above scenarios, there is a high need to hold a bash on 04th December 2010 as to wind up field marketing for marketing society, welcoming first year and to refresh the minds of the students after the UDOM students’ day event. PROPOSED BASH ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS AND CHARGES Every person shall be charged Tsh. 5,000/- from which he will get airtime of Tsh. 2,000/-. This suggests that everyone must have an Airtel starter pack. SPONSORSHIP The whole UDOM students say was planned to be financed by University of Dodoma students organization (UDOSO) except for the BASH where a full sponsorship was planned to be worked on, but due to weak financial muscle, UDOSO authorized participating associations to seek for possible support from their respective sponsors. Marketing society chose to give the opportunity to AIRTEL as helping branding a new born brand and practicing our marketing skills as well. Each association will be given one gazebo on the event ground; marketing society will have two more gazebos for sales of AIRTEL products. T-shirts We recommend offering special T-shirts with AIRTEL logo to members of marketing society for branding not only on the event day, but they will also put them on on other days where T0shirts will play very same vital role of branding. Starter packs and registration books To finalize field marketing training practical phase, members of marketing society will be provided with ZAIN starter packs and registration books to sell and register customers.
