There are many different reasons that people use marijuana, and some of them aren’t that bad. Marijuana can help overstressed workers relax in their free time, boost the economy, and help improve human health. This topic has been debated for years, but it is finally starting to take effect. Recently, NJ legislators have debated the use of marijuana for medical reasons. The bill for the legalization has been passed to the assembly, and is expected to return to the senate before Governor Jon Corzine can consider it. These days, stress is dangerous. With problems with the economy, jobs, and relationships, stress can drive people insane. It messes with the health and the peace of mind of the society these days. What people need is a good way to just get away for a while, and to ease their mind. Which is what many doctors recommend when overstressed. Many resort to drinking, which in my opinion is a bad choice because it is addicting. There are many cases of this addiction, and you can even see it on TV. Even the famous rapper Eminem had to go to rehab for the addiction of alcohol. Many fatal accidents can happen from drunken people, because when drunk, they tend to do many stupid things. Marijuana is not habit forming, and it relaxes the people and slows everything down. I strongly believe that weed is the way to being truly relaxed and calm. Not to mention the fact that it can be stopped right away, unlike alcohol. An example of a person who had a lot of pressure is Michael Phelps. He resorted to marijuana, and I honestly think that it could help him deal with the new things and opportunities that pass by him every day. He has interviews, pictures for different magazines, and his name is being uttered everywhere. Many celebrities and politicians smoke weed, and many successful people can still continue to shine, even when using this drug. The economy is becoming a big issue in our world today. We’re in desperate need of something productive happening, so that more jobs are created, and so that the economy can get boosted up. Imagine how much those numbers would grow if it were legal. At a street market amount around 20$ per gram, the amount of profit would greatly benefit our society. New careers could be formed, cannabis farmers, shippers that transport the goods to other stores and factories for packaging, and the sellers that buy weed to sell in their own stores. Advertisements for the new products would be needed, so that would create jobs too. If other countries got influenced by the United States’ decisions to have marijuana legalized for recreational and medical purposes, we could also ship our products to other countries. We could get paid by other countries to supply them with goods. With the same rules as alcohol, weed can actually be alright for doing use. A DUI can be issued if a person is caught driving under the influence. The possession of weed under the legal age limit of 21 can be counted as a underage possession of drugs. If they sell to minors, stores can be stripped of their license. Alcohol is perfectly fine if used sparingly, but when it is abused, there are problems. Hangovers and bad moods come from alcohol. With weed, all that comes with it is drowsiness and a slight lack of coordination for a couple of hours. Rehabilitation centers can be held for those who can’t control their smoking habits of weed. The drug itself isn’t addictive, but there can be facilities to help people control their usage, because there are irresponsible people out there. There are many uses for marijuana in the medical field. There are far more good effects it has on the human body than bad. There were even recent cases of prevented tumors and diseases. Nicotine is worse for people, and it should be named the “gateway drug” rather than marijuana, because it is addictive. That puts people on the “addict” list. Weed cannot. Weed cleans up debris in the lungs, increases metabolism, and boosts people’s appetite. Weed can be used on patients that need to ease their pain. People with insomnia and sleeping disorders can use this drug to straighten their sleeping patterns out. Marijuana could be the answer to all our problems, if only the government would step in. I think that if more people were aware of the true facts of the cannabis plant, they too would be supporting the non-lethal drug. It would help our economy, help with medical problems, and there would be so many less arrests each year. Police officers would be able to worry about more important things, like hard drugs. If everyone just listened for two minutes and found out the truth behind marijuana, they would be for it too.
