Map Out an Important Goal 1. Short-Term Educational Goal a. Your specific goal: Earn an “A” in every course I take b. Actions you plan to take to achieve your goal. What will you do to support your goal . . . 1) Today' Read all necessary material needed to comprehend and then explain what I’ve learned. Continue to participate in all classroom discussions and refer to my syllabus to verify all coursework has been completed for the day. 2) This week' Set aside 2 hours every evening to devote to my studies and keep up with all class room discussions. Make sure if I have questions that I ask Dr. P or my fellow classmates for help on clarifying any assignments. Refer to my Syllabus to verify all coursework has been completed for the week. 3) This month' Follow through with my previous commitments and continue to stay on top of all reading material, assignments and discussion questions. Continue to refer to my Syllabus to verify all coursework has been completed. 4) This year' Have a 4.0 and a have learned a wealth of knowledge that I can take with into a professional arena. Employ all the strategies I’ve learned In this class to not only future classes, but to everyday life as well. 2. Long-Term Educational Goal a. Your specific goal: Receiving my Bachelors degree in Healthcare Management b. Actions you plan to take to achieve your goal. What will you do to support your goal . . . 1) Today' Create a checklist for today to ensure that all requirements have been met for the week. Make sure I am mentally and physically prepared for tonight’s coursework and well rested for the new day so that I maintain a healthy stress level. Refer to my Syllabus to verify what needs to be done tonight and tomorrow. 2) This week' Continue with the same schedule I had for last week which was to stay on top of all discussions in the classroom, read all necessary readings and stay a day ahead with all assignments. Refer to the Syllabus to verify all necessary assignments have been completed. 3) This month' Be patient while learning. I will take every assignment one step at a time and not only make sure I understand the material but also retain what I am learning. Also, continue to keep up with all discussions. Refer to the Syllabus to verify all assignments have been completed. 4) This year' Remaining focused on the end product which is getting an A in every class. Learn all material to the best of my ability and if I don’t understand something ask my instructor or fellow classmates. Stay on top of all assignments and make sure all work is completed on time. No matter what class I am in I will always be sure to refer to my Syllabus to verify all assignments have been completed and completed correctly. 3. Goal Development Analysis Please respond to the following questions. Your response should be at least 100-words in length. a. What types of techniques did you use to set your educational goals' I would say the main technique I used while setting my goals was the time saving technique. My days are extremely busy and by putting together to do lists and planning out my week has definitely made it easier to see the big picture, which is getting an “A” in all my classes. Also, blocking out certain times of my day to devote to my studies is a very beneficial technique to ensure my success in my classes. The last technique I used in setting my goals was prioritizing my days each morning and writing down what needs to be done from the most important to least important tasks/activities. When it comes to my studies, I first gather all information needed to complete the assignment, learn the material and then complete all the work needed to be successful. b. What kind of techniques will you use to manage your time so that you can achieve your goals' At the beginning of each work week I will get my planner and create all the necessary to do lists for me to be successful and cross them off as I go. The two hour time from that I have set aside each day will ensure that all my tasks are completed in a timely manner and will also help me to avoid procrastination. If for some reason all my course work would not get completed in the allotted time frame, I will carry my Syllabus and planner wherever I go and when I have a moment of down time, I will use that time to get my course work completed. c. What kind of techniques will you use to manage the stress that you may encounter in achieving your goals' I feel that creating to do lists and having my planner with me will greatly reduce my stress levels, because I will know what is expected of me and also that I have set aside the time to devote to my studies. Exercise is another technique to reduce stress, about a year ago I started exercising on a regular basis and it has really helped with reducing my stress level. I also always get to bed at a decent hour and am sure to get between seven or eight hours of sleep each night. All of these combined actions as well as a balanced diet, will enable me to keep my stress levels in check.
