As everyone is aware Interclean, Inc. has acquired EnviroTech. While this merger is a wonderful opportunity for Interclean, Inc., this will require an enormous amount of hard work both from the management team and our employees. This acquisition will allow the sales team a vast opportunity to grow this company to its full potential. The acquisition of EnviroTech will enable the organization to enter a new global market. While entering the global market will be a wonderful opportunity for Interclean, Inc., this will also come with an enormous challenge. In order to be successful in the global market the sales team will need to hire new staff and train our current staff to be able to succeed in this market. This will require the group to provide substantial training to our current staff. Furthermore, for the transition to be successful the management team will have to demonstrate positive leadership to current employees. Managers will need to keep the teams focus as the companies merge with Interclean and EnviroTech to make one successful group. To smoothly administer the sales team’s goals, managers will need to focus on a few things within the next few weeks. These include providing effective leadership skills to continue to meet and exceed productivity, learn to work within a diverse group and remembering the importance of following the employment laws when hiring the new sales team.
The management team will need to exhibit positive behavior in order to lead by example for the employees. If management have negative behavior towards the acquisition then the employees will also show negative vibes toward the acquisition. Managers will need to help boost morale during the transition stage. Keeping morale up will be a challenge as the employees are already talking among themselves and some are worried that they will be terminated. I believe by keeping morale up the employees will be less likely to seek alternative employment and will continue to maintain their productivity. Each manager should meet with his or her team to explain in detail what is happening and how this will affect the company and the employees. If the management team keeps the employees aware of what is happening this will hopefully produce less fear among the group. To limit productivity from going down during this transition time, managers will need to continue to meet with his or her team to assure them that they will not lose their jobs. Explaining how each individual employee will affect the business will also increase productivity. Managers continue to reward positive behavior as this can also improve our productivity. Attached is an article by Bloom and Van Reened (2006) that describes recommended management behavior required to increase productivity. The article explains that better management of work like balance is associated with higher productivity (Bloom & Van Reened, 2006). Basically, if the employees are happy and feel that the company values them as individuals then they will continue to produce as they did in the past. Positive attitudes will be key to the success of this transition.
Due to the acquisition InterClean will need to hire new talent as well as keeping and training the current talent. This will be the perfect opportunity to obtain a diverse workforce. Because InterClean is trying to enter the global market, managers will need to learn to work within a diverse environment. Training and mentoring will need to be provided to the department in order to work with one another as a team. Please post non-discrimination documents in each office to remind employees of current discrimination policy. The human resources manager will send an e-mail for an informational session regarding managing a diverse environment. Managers please plan to attend this session, as this will provide the management team with pertinent information for the new team. Managers remember to be flexible in work schedules with employees especially those with small children and elderly parents. Providing flexibility can make the difference between losing and retaining loyal employees (Cascio, 2005). The human resources department suggests management start an informal monthly luncheon for the employees in order for the group to get to know more about each other. Remind the staff the importance of respecting and accepting one another. Remind your teams of our no tolerance policy for disrespecting each another. Managers, diversity is not something that should be feared but we need to understand we cannot run away from it (Cascio, 2005). Again a diverse workforce will help position the organization to offer our products globally which will help the organization to grow.
The human resources department will be in charge with the initial interview for new hires but the hiring manager will make the final hiring decision. With that said, familiarize yourself with the employment laws. As the sales department hire new people, please remember the organization is an equal opportunity employer. As much as the organization would like to have a diverse company, we cannot give unfair advantage to any specific group. Please choose the candidate that is best for the specific position that you are looking to fill. Please do not choose a candidate just because that person speaks a specific language for a market that we are trying to enter. If two candidates have the same qualifications but one speaks a specific language then of course, you can make your decision based on what we are looking to fill. Remember we cannot discriminate against age, race, gender, religion, national origin, or disability. Focus your selection of applicants based on experience and what each individual has to offer. Managers you will also be responsible for the final say in pay grades. We want to try to bring everyone at the same pay grade; exception is for people with additional experience. Remind yourselves we are an equal pay employer as well.
Lastly, this merger is a great opportunity for InterClean to enter a new market, increase our current productivity and acquire great talent. Managers positive attitude will be the deal breaker. Your team will continue to produce if they feel the organization needs them to succeed. Understanding and promoting a diverse environment will also help us to retain our loyal employees. And most importantly, pay special attention to the employment laws when making hiring decisions.
