English Recount I woke up at six o’clock in the morning, with Dad telling me to hurry up, I got up got dressed and had an Up n Go. I grabbed my bags and got into the taxi and we were on our way to the Airport. We arrived at the airport checked up, went through security and had a coffee, whilst waiting for the plane to start boarding. The voiceover called for our plane that was headed for Melbourne, so we made our way to the gate, and got into the Virgin Blue Plane. Once we were on the plane I purchased foxtel so I could watch it on the Plane, as Dad slept. Once we arrived in Melbourne we grabbed out bags, and headed to the Rental car car park. We got the keys for our Ford Focus, and headed to our apartment that was about a kilometres walk from the MCG. We checked in placed down our bags, and then we were off walking to the MCG, for the Grand Final, we had Melbourne Boardroom tickets so we arrived there about eleven o’clock and had a bit of a walk around and took some photos. We headed up to the Boardroom. Once we were there it was about twelve o’clock and had food that was supplied that was Lamb, they had a few AFL greats talking there, including, Robert Harvey, Billy Brownless, Shane Wakelin. After sitting there for a while it was time for the game, as we were walking to our seats we bumped into Mick Malthouse the Collingwood coach, I love Collingwood so I got a photo with him. So we walked out for the Pre Game entertainment that was The Hunters and Collectors’ singing their great song Holy Grail, which is relevant to AFL and the premiership cup. Also Jimmy Barnes sang two of his well known song in “You’re the Voice” and “No Second Prize” Now it was time for the “Main Event”, The GRAND FINAL, St Kilda v.s Geelong, the ball was bounced and ninety nine thousand, two hundred and fifty one people were screaming their heads off and cheering for their team, it was bound to be one of the best grand finals as each team had only lost two games each for the whole year, and one of those games, was St Kilda winning against Geelong earlier in the season. As the game went on the scores rose, and the games intensity rose, St Kilda scored the first goal, but Geelong followed soon after, before I knew it the first quarter was over but happily St Kilda had the lead over Geelong by two points. The next quarter was an interesting one Geelong came back and held the lead for a bit, but St Kilda promisingly came back and grabbed the lead, which they held going into Half Time with St Kilda holding a six point lead. During half time there was more food that was cooked for us in the Boardroom, after that I walked out to watch the Grand Final sprint, which never disappoints and was won by Rhys Stanley of St Kilda, I was thinking hopefully that’s a preview of things to come in which St Kilda hopefully winning. It was time for the third quarter, which is known as the game breaker quarter, because it is right after the thirty-minuet break in half time. The qauter started and Geelong scored the first goal putting them a Goal behind St Kilda, but St Kilda replied quickly and scored another goal and they were in front by two goals, as the game went on the game got more intense as Geelong started to wake up, and be more slick with the footy, after the third quarter the Saints held a helpful seven point lead, over Geelong, the break was over and everyone was pumped for the last qauter, the decider and who would win the 2010 Grand Final was soon to be seen to the rest of Australia, it was a fantastic qauter the lead changed several times throughout the whole quarter, they were well and truly into battle now, but after St Kilda had the lead all day Geelong scored a goal, and they were tied at sixty seven a piece with four minuets to go. Then Geelong struck the ball was kicked to Gary Ablett, but he fumbled then Matthew Scarlett did the unthinkable toe poked the ball to Ablett, who kicked the ball into their forward line which resulted in Paul Chapman scoring a goal and after a solid three minuets of football sadly Geelong came out with the win after trailing all day. This was one of the greatest moments of my life and ill never forget my first AFL grand final. Tom Quinn Word Count: 796 Words
