Libertarianism

2013-11-13 来源: 类别: 更多范文

Libertarianism Libertarianism, by definition, is political philosophy that upholds individual liberty, especially freedom of expression and action and a group of political philosophies which emphasize freedom, liberty, and voluntary association. This is a person who supports individual freedom and opposes the use of coercion by anyone or anything for any reason.  This means that each individual has the right to keep what he earns for himself and their family, and this includes the right to use, trade, sell, give away, or dispose of their property as they sees fit.  In basic terms, libertarianism is the concept that man is an autonomous being, one who operates independently, not controlled by others or by outside forces. It is the view that human beings sometimes can will more than one possibility. According to this view of libertarianism, a person who freely made a particular choice could have chosen differently, even if nothing about the past prior to the moment of choice had been different; in simple terms, making a choice with no coercion involved. In libertarianism, the power of contrary choice reigns above all. Without the ability to choose otherwise, libertarianism proponents will claim that man cannot be held morally responsible for his actions.
Being an autonomous person is key in understanding libertarianism. This basically means that you are self-governed. We, as free moral agents, can make our own decisions and are not subject to the will or determination of another. In any given situation we can freely choose to do a specific action. Furthermore, if the given situation presents itself again, we can freely choose a different action than we chose with the same situation at a different time. having our own free will to make whatever choice fits the situation is the basic idea of libertarianism. Extreme libertarians take individual rights very seriously; strongly enough to consistently uphold them against the initiation of the use of force by anyone, including the government.  Libertarians may or may not approve of some of the things that some people may do in private or in voluntary relations, but whatever their own code of personal moral conduct is, they do not seek to ban any private or voluntary activities by the use of force, including the force of government action.  To do so would be to violate the principle of individual rights of person and property, and thereby undercut any rational argument in favor of freedom or defense of the free-market system.  Common traditions or moral values bind a community together and encourage cooperation. A lightly liberal society is a broken society without that bond of common culture, except those that emerge in small groups of people of similar preferences. Certainly, the market can enable high levels of cooperation in terms of production, but a strongly libertarian market is largely unregulated. That can lead to great inequities emerging, and that can also destabilize the society. Take a personal practice like polygamy. Polygamy is the way of life that allows one to marry multiple wives. Libertarians would not allow us to regulate such a behavior. However, polygamists can also destabilize a society. In a society where there is a substantial deficit of single women increases the levels of male competition. Men will go to many different levels of violence with other males to be able to take a females hand in marriage and not be the male left behind. This could simply be summed up by comparing it to a lioness in a heard of lions. Only one male will be the alpha male; therefore, causing all other males to compete with it and try and take the thrown. Being a libertarian, you would allow the polygamous society to marry as many women as they desire. By making this action illegal would be taking away the rights of their freedom and free will. A person is free to make their own decisions on how they choose to live their lives and how they choose to act throughout their lives. If one is to want more than one wife, he ought to be able to have as many as he pleases. Libertarianism is a way of life that allows for some people to have difficult decisions to make in life that will either result in unlawful actions but satisfy their libertarian inside, or do the opposite by abiding by the laws but going against their libertarianism.
