Teamwork is essential in order to produce an effective learning environment with all members having a role to play. Head teacher and Senior Management are responsible for creating and maintaining the learning environment, class teachers are responsible for the preparation of the learning environment inside a classroom and Teaching Assistants help individual class teachers maintain and prepare their learning environment. Rules and Routines: Set rules and routines should be put into place to promote an effective learning environment. They help pupils develop a sense of responsibility by getting into a routine and following rules. Use of Teaching Assistants: Teaching Assistants work with specific pupils making sure they have the necessary materials needed for the lesson; they help pupils to focus on specific activities e.g. supporting ICT. In doing this they are contributing to the learning environment and helping pupils achieve. General quality of the Learning Environment: The classroom is the main focal point of the learning environment. It is vital that the classroom has adequate space for the age and needs of the pupils, that there is good heating, lighting and ventilation all contribute as well. Resources available and used: Any equipment or materials pupils might use must be safe to use by explaining necessary safety rules to them. This all contributes to the learning environment. Record Keeping: This monitors the progress of pupils across the curriculum and sets objectives for the pupils. In keeping such records contributes to the learning environment. School Policies and Procedures: These make sure there is a structured and consistent learning environment. They are legal requirements that schools must follow. Organisation of the Learning Environment: A learning environment should be welcoming and friendly, represent a cultural diversity of the school and its local community. This way the pupils feel a part of something and feel safe where they are learning.
