Legislation and Codes of Practice
Legislative requirement is the duty to act according to the law and usually enforceable through the courts. Code of Practice is a set of rules outlining how a person in a particular profession or situation is expected to behave.
1) Equality Act 2010 - provides the framework to protect the rights of individuals and advance equality of opportunity for all; and to deliver a simple, modern and accessible framework of discrimination law which protects individuals from unfair treatment and promotes a fair and more equal society.
2) Data Protection Act 1998 - Safeguards the fundamental rights of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and its free movement.
3) Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 - Protecting others against risks to health and safety in connection with the activities of persons.
4) FE Regulation 2007 - makes rules and regulations guiding the teacher in their various duties, which are expected to be adhered to by the teacher.
5) Freedom of Information Acts 2005 - This Act encourages greater openness and transparency across the whole public sector and it provides individuals or organisations with the right to request information held by a public authority.
6) Every Child Matters - A set of reforms supported by the Children Act 2004. Its aim is for every child, whatever their background or circumstances, to have the support they need to be healthy; stay safe; enjoy and achieve; make a positive contribution; and achieve economic well-being.
7) Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Act 2001 - making it unlawful to discriminate against disabled persons in employment and the provision of goods and facilities.
