Learning Activities DISC Assessment
In this paper, I will write a synapse, including the DISC and other assessment results. The DISC Assessment is a tool used to help individuals improve, strengthen, and develop themselves. Additionally, this tool helps individuals identify characteristics and patterns in behavior to help him or her properly conduct themselves and act more age-appropriate and constructively by instructing him or her how to focus on his or her objectives and goals opposed to his or her fears. After completing the assessment, the system generates reports compiled of results from each segment. The results are plotted on a customized Graph. This report helps break down the combined results and provides suggestions on how to improve and alter behavior to have more constructive personal and professional relationships.
According to the DISC Assessment, there are four primary behavioral styles, including The Dominance Style (D Style): The Dominance Styles are driven by two governing needs: the need to control and the need to achieve. The D Styles are goal-oriented go-getters who are most comfortable when they are in charge of people and situations. The Interactive Style (I Style): The Interactive Styles are friendly, enthusiastic “party animals” who like to be where the action is. The I Style just wants to have fun. The Steadiness Style (S Style): The Steadiness Styles are warm, supportive, and nurturing individuals. They are the most people-oriented of the four styles The Cautious Style (C Style): The Cautious Styles are almost always in control of their emotions and may become uncomfortable around people who are very out-going (e.g., the Interactive Styles) (Alessandra, 1996-2010).
According to my results, I am predominantly an Interactive Style, which is called The Impresser. My results indicate that the primary goal that motivates me is to win with style. Although I agree, however, I do not want to win at any cost or hurt others’ feelings. Partaking in illegal activities, falsifying information, misleading or manipulation, and taking shortcuts seems like cheating, so I tend to do things the right way through dedication and hard-work. I can be impatient with procrastinators. My tendencies, just to name a few, include: wanting to achieve results with flair, seeing winning as an all-or-nothing proposition, judging people by their ability to make things happen, concerned about looking bad, becoming restless, short-tempered, and even lashing out when under pressure (Alessandra, 1996-2010).
According to a few business associates, they observed my behavior styles differently. One associate’s observation results indicated my behavioral style as Interactive Style (The Impresser). Another associate observation results indicated my behavioral style as The Adventurer-dominant and independent. A few school associates’ observation results indicated my behavioral style as The Enthusiast-influencing people.
During my two-hour assessment period I have learned how to identify both incompetencies and competencies in both my learning and behavioral styles. I also learned and how to alter my behavior to have more healthy and productive relationships. I learned about my behavioral style through my observation and through the eyes of others. I also learned my degree of self-awareness, or lack of.
To conclude, this assessment made me aware of my behavior and the affect and impact it has on others, such as my son, job, peers, and friends. In addition, I have learned that how I view and measure my behavior differ from how others observe me. This assessment helped me identify several characteristics, vices, ethical and morale, learning, and behavior styles, not only for me but also from other observations and perspectives as well as in others. No one style is better than the other. Everyone has his or her own unique learning and behavioral styles. Each has its’ own strengths and weaknesses. Learning behavioral styles is a valuable trait and tool to have to create and maintain better chemistry with many people in both personal and professional relationships. By acknowledging, identifying, accepting, and respecting a person’s learning and behavioral style will promote better and healthier relationships.
