Identify the main conclusions and supporting evidence provided by the author
In this article, the author highlighted on three main factors impacting on leadership development and lead to multiple result in the company success. The financial performance, talent attraction and retention, development of a performance culture, and increased organizational agility.
Leadership skills development can play a large role in organization. Often, technical skills can only take you so far. To help move forward in career, people need soft skills such as the ability to be a good leader. Therefore, leadership skills are considered to be important traits which can help to get to the top of the career field. Few people are born to be leaders. Most of us need to practice being a good leader, and that's why leadership development is so important.
The importance of business leadership is well articulated by this observation: A good leader can make a success of a weak business plan, but a poor leader can ruin even the best plan. That’s why developing effective leadership by using a consistent talent management program at all levels across the organization can return significant business value. To identify, attract, fill, and retain corporate leadership talent, companies need leadership development programs focused on hiring strategies, employee development, and career and succession planning
Companies face two major challenges in finding and developing leaders. They need to identify qualified candidates to fill current and future leadership roles, and they need to develop a comprehensive leadership program to cultivate and develop the leaders of tomorrow. In the past, leadership development was focused on only a few individuals in the organization. First- generation systems to assist with leadership development were siloed and/ or hard to use and were not widely adopted. Companies needed a system-enabled way to unify methods of assessing and selecting leaders, executing programs to develop skills, and measuring the success of these programs. Now technology can be deployed to extend these practices across the enterprise and down into all levels of the workforce. This white paper explores leadership challenges and highlights the elements of a successful leadership development program that uses technology to support processes and practices.

In this article, the authors highlighted on four main factors impacting on leadership development, leading to multiple results in a successful companies. These factors are the financial performance, talent attraction and retention, development of a performance culture, and increased organizational agility.
Leadership skills development can play a large role in organization. The authors concludes that the organizations that have survived in many economic cycles have learned that “leadership matters” over the long term. The research shows that leadership development continues to be a top priority within organizations. For the authors, a good leader can make a success of a weak business plan, but a poor leader can ruin even the best plan. That’s why developing effective leadership by using a consistent talent management program at all levels across the organization can return significant business value. They added that with the economic recession, many of these programs are being shortened or modified for greater efficiency. Therefore, we set out to determine how much is being spent on leadership development and how these programs are being conducted.

The findings revealed that leadership development is still immature within most companies, according to the Bersin & Associates. Many organizations, however, are making progress toward more effective leadership initiatives. Approximately one in 10 organizations has reached the strategic stage of maturity, in which leadership development is integrated with the company’s overall talent management process and aligned with strategic business priorities. The research also evaluates the effectiveness of leadership development programs and their impact on the business. The authors conclude that companies that continue to improve and optimize their initiatives reap huge rewards. The study demonstrates that companies in the strategic stage of leadership development consistently outperform less mature companies in terms of leadership capabilities, employee retention, higher employee productivity and better financial performance. These companies are not just developing leaders, they are creating high-performing, sustainable organizations. These companies will be the first to come through the recession and will be around for a long time. These will be the enduring organizations.
Demonstrate how the article is either consistent or not with your experience on this topic
I think this article is consistent the way I manage my team. Managing people require having skills set enabling efficiently at work. One of the most important skills for a leader is listening. Listening to others is essential to get feedback from what the team members like about the projects they work on. Additionally, talk to the team members to motivate them of the difficulties they are facing. Leadership development is important to deliver accurate and timely report. The training that we had in the past has helped us as a team to be more productive and accomplish the task efficiently.
What are the key learning points that you think are applicable to your present or past business environment' (if you are not working, interview someone who is)
The key learning points that work doesn’t get done through hierarchy. Leadership development is demonstrated in the way that collaboration within group creates a dynamic team in the company to function well and get the job done efficiency.
Suggest at least one practical application of the key learning points and demonstrate the benefit that you would anticipate
The key learning point I got out of this article is when you work with givers and help them overcome their weaknesses, you are creating a win-win situation because they will take what they have gained and share it with those around them. They feel rewarded by what you have given them and also want to do the same for others. Managers must cultivate the act of giving in order to help givers not fall into danger of being abused. A company must also make the environment welcoming and not threatening to givers because they are the future. Warren Buffet, IDEO, and Gold’s Gym each look for giver characteristics in their hiring process. They tend to stay away from candidates exhibiting taker traits. Their feeling is takers will detract from the givers by asking too much of them. In the long run, it is the generosity of the givers that will make the company, organization, and society most successful. It is for that reason that we must invest in them. Once we have them, we must keep them happy and encourage their giving ways for the benefit of all.
