The use of ICT in PE and Sport Overview/Summary Gateshead CLC has led a project with two of its partner schools and the Newcastle Falcons rugby club, home to World Cup star Jonny Wilkinson. The Falcons have taken part in a series of sessions with the school's rugby teams to promote the use of innovative and developmental sports video analysis software. Why was the work undertaken' The project was initiated to raise awareness of the potential use of sports video analysis software across the PE curriculum and showcase the role that the CLC can play in introducing and supporting the software. How was the process managed' CLC staff identified and purchased the analysis software and hardware and undertook the necessary training required. The CLC then contacted the Newcastle Falcons and partner PE departments to initiate the project. The project combines both practical coaching sessions with the Falcons and hands on teaching and learning with the software in the CLC, with CLC staff supporting both the students and coaching staff using the software. What was the outcome' So far 50 students have had an introductory session with the video analysis software and had a coaching session with the Falcons academy staff. They are all attending a further session at the Falcons in April, where they will hopefully meet with and take footage of the first team. How will you build on success' The project has already raised awareness of the video analysis software and its potential use across the PE curriculum. The CLC will be arranging further development sessions for PE staff across the LEA and encouraging the use of the software in other areas of the PE curriculum. We also hope to set up a similar project with Durham County Cricket Club in the summer term.
