Personal Values Paper

My Personal Values
“Values are strategic lessons which are learned through the course of life and tend to be maintained and remain stable over time” (2007).My personal values reflect on all the decisions I make day-to-day. The Junigan 16-Type Personality suggests that I am reflective in all of my decisions. I take the time to reflect if the decision I am about to make will effect me in a negative aspect or a positive one. The Williams Institute Ethics Awareness Inventory self assessment results stated my most ethical profile is Obligation and I am least aligned with Equity. After completing this assessment I realized that my personal values are identical with Kudler Fine Food’s values as well.
My personal values can be summarized into one quote, which is the golden rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” (Matthew 7:12). This is very difficult to constantly want to exhibit because there are tons of decisions that managers have to make daily. A majority of the decisions managers make are never thought out but are more quick decisions that need to be carried out immediately.
Kudler Values
“A crucial aspect of managing is recognizing the role and importance of others.” (2007) Kudler Fine Foods values obligation just as I do. Kudler has a vision to provide their customers with the finest selection of foods. Their social responsibility statement also states that if their customers aren’t satisfied with their purchase it is free. My interpretation of the values of this company, are the company makes sure their customers are satisfied first and all profits will follow. The company was started by the vision of Kathy providing something consumers could value. Kathy states in her strategic plan that if there is a certain product requested by consumers she will special order it. Kudler values people and people. Kathy is dedicated to making sure the company provides the best service and experience for their customers so they will continue to come back to purchase more.
Incorporation of my values with Kudler
Some manager’s actions are always determined by his or her personal values “Values differ from individuals to individual, but also each individual’s values changes from situation to the next, whether he or she is aware of it or not” (Dooley, Katz, Learned, 1959). My experience with management has led me to believe that managers do place their own beliefs or values on the decisions they make in their work environment. I have taken some of my past managers’ practices into my own management techniques. I take pride in knowing that I value my obligation to my customers. I know that this is something that Kathy deals directly within customer service and her obligation to her employees and consumers. This would help me be successful at Kudler Fine Foods. I would also exemplify excellent customer service. Kudler Fine Foods already takes values in satisfying their customers. I would place the customers’ satisfaction as the top priority in the success of Kudler Fine Foods. I would be able to mirror to my employees it is always about the customer experience and to never over promise but to over deliver. Kudler Foods should concentrate on satisfying customers beyond products but through service. Providing excellent customer service to each location would allow customers to not only to shop with Kudler because of the products they sell, but also to keep coming back because of the excellent service he or she provides.
At times there can be frustrations with obligation. Sometimes when making a decision that I feel think is right others may view this decision indifferent, and it could not be beneficial. The most common frustration that I encounter occurs when ethical principles are violated it sometimes leaves little room for compromise. I often will not look at the other options if it seems to me that they have a negative connotation. As a manager at Kudler this may be an issue for me. Some of my employees may look to the quick option. Employees may also think my decisions are only benefiting myself because I am incorporating my own values into the decisions. In order for everyone to have a complete understanding of my values, I would create values for the company. Every employee would be responsible for reflecting these values. As a manager it is important for my employees to understand the decisions I make, and that the decisions are made to help the company as well as to satisfy the customer.
More organizations are putting in place the framework to become a values-based organization. Kudler Fine Foods can be developed into a Values-based organization. The members of the organization would be the employees and the customers. It is important that the values are well known and displayed so the employees and the customers are aware. As a manager at Kudler it is about the set of values that I hold and making the company accountable for. My values would be a definite attribute to Kudler Fine Foods. The company would be able to gain my knowledge on satisfying customers beyond products but through service. With the company’s values in place the company can experience customer satisfaction and repeat business that will also help them think globally.
