To what extent was Louis XVI executed because he was unwilling to cooperate with the legislative assembly' On January, 21, 1793 King Louis XVI was guillotined by the Paris Commune, the Paris Commune has taken over after the Legislative assembly had been unsuccessful and resulted in it being broken up. There were numerous reasons for Louis execution, one of these was Louis lack of co-operation with the legislative assembly. The legislative assembly took place as of 1791 in act of the National Constituent assembly which was run by a separate group to the Legislative assembly. However there were other reasons and factors which may have had an influence in the lead up to the execution of King Louis XVI. Louis XVI was considered weak in character and had a lacking interest in ruling his kingdom, he also struggled to handle the problems in the society. The flight of Varennes in June 1791 was one of many bad decisions made by Louis. He decided to flee Tuileries and escape to Austria where he could stay because he was worried about radicals in the political group Jacobins. He also felt he couldn’t work with the new constitution and didn’t agree with many of their policies and proposals. However, after being recognised by a postman and sent back to France, the radicals decided that the King couldn’t be trusted and if he stayed in a position of power the revolution held no stability. This resulted in the King being suspended until he agreed to the proposals.
