Key Concepts of Creativity and Innovation Worksheet Concept (Identify at least five concepts) Application of concept in scenario Citation of concept in reading Personal experience in your organization Organizational decision making Sabrina McKay, vice president of organizational development, will be initiating a special project designed to increase creativity and innovation throughout our organization” (University of Phoenix, 2011). She conducted an employee survey, research innovative companies, created performance management, training and development, and incentive programs. This was all done as a part of organizational learning in order to raise organizational effectiveness and innovation. (Jones, 2004, p. 368) In my work experiences I have been a part of teams that problem solve. For example; we had to input numbers into two different systems. I came up with an Excel document that records the information that can be inputted into the proper documents. This made our process more efficient and upper management happy with our efficiency. Organizational learning Elizabeth Fairchild tasked Sabina McKay to find ways to create innovation at Best Snacks. She was asked to answer the following questions: • What are the characteristics of innovative and creative companies' • How do we stack up' In other words, what does your analysis tell us about Best Snacks’s current situation' Where do we need to improve' • What steps do you think we need to take to transform the organization' o What initiatives, specifically, do you propose' o What, if any, training and development activities do you recommend' o What, if any, changes will be required in our organizational systems' By finding these answers Best Snacks will be better prepared to remain an industry competitor. (Jones, 2004, p. 376) My previous employment was one of continuous learning. The team was a part of was new a developing. Our managers were always looking to improve our department to create organizational effectiveness. We had taken surveys about management and our viewpoints in order to help increase effectiveness. Innovative Business Model Change - Supply Chain In the scenario Assessing Innovation in an Organization we worked through the innovative business model change of supply change. Imotep Inc. a pharmaceutical company needed to find ways to make decisions that foster innovation. Throughout the scenario we decided how to measure innovation, choose which products both new and current to develop and launch, project revenue, and choose products for the sales team to foster innovation. “Innovation means much more than creating new products, strive to create a culture that encourages new ideas” (University of Phoenix, 2011). (Davila et al., 2006, p. 33). Working for the United States government, there is plenty of “behind the scenes” changes that occur. Our policies and procedures have been constantly changing in order to improve efficiency and cost effectiveness for the public. I have been through six changes of our standard operating procedures since my employment. Radical Innovation Elizabeth Fairchild is from a background where innovation and creativity are commonly used. She knows what needs to happen in order for Best Snacks to remain an industry leader. “Her informal evaluation has convinced her that to continue to thrive, the company must develop more innovative products as well as new and innovative ways to reach the market. She is determined to make Best Snacks the first consumer snacks company to make radical innovation and creativity a vital part of the organization's culture”(University of Phoenix, 2011). (Davila et al., 2006, p. 39). The small group that I was previous employed with was a radical innovation to my company. We benchmarked other companies and developed a new program to improve security at airports in a way that was new to airport security. Learning to Learn Sabrina McKay has been given the special assignment to “develop a proposal for changing the organization’s culture with the goal of increasing our capacity for creativity” (University of Phoenix, 2011). She will be learning to learn for Best Snacks. Sabrina will find the best ways to innovate by questioning the current processes. (Davila et al., 2006, p. 214). The United States government is always learning to learn. In any department of the government, there are new innovative ways to improve security, save money, increase efficiency, etc. The current processes are constantly being revamped using innovation.
